Children in grade three should obtain a library card from the local library. You may wish to include a bi-weekly outing to the local library.
Using the internet do a search for “free printable readers”. www.learningpage.com has a large section of readers and reading comprehension activity sheets to download for free. You must sign up as a member, but membership is free. Included in this manual are a few samples of “Tommy’s Adventures” from wwwlearningpage.com. The main character in this series is in grade three. A literacy center with corresponding science and social studies center can be set up to enrich additional learning on the subject in the reader.
The first sample is a page from one of the free printable books from the Tommy series. There are fun-sheets Activity pages (about 20 per book) free to download as well. As well as fact sheets about other countries, science, and various subjects mentioned in the series.
