Grow and the former Hazel Kimber were married Jan. 20, 1935, at Presbyterian Church in Great Bend and lived on a farm near Hudson. He worked in the oil field and was an ag custom cutter. She was a homemaker. The couple have six children, Sharon Smiley of Texhoma, Okla., Marilyn Fulton of Junction City, Rita Jones and Linda Elliott, both of Wichita, and Keith Grow and Larry Grow, both of Hudson. Donald B Zook and Natalie Jo Zink were married June 5, 1954, by the Rev. Sam Keller at the United Methodist Church in Scott City. Don was a United Methodist pastor from 1955-1993 with exchange pastorates in Belfast, Ireland, and County Durham, England and served as the First United Methodist pastor in Great Bend from 1984-1987. Natalie was a teacher and middle school counselor, serving one year as the president of the Kansas Middle Level Educators, was a financial advisor with Waddell & Reed, and initiated the CASA Program in Great Bend. They retired in May 1993 whereupon they have served pastorates in international English speaking congregations in London, England; Colombia and Brazil, South America; and Bali, Indonesia. They currently spend the summer months in Pitkin, Colo., and travel in their motorhome during the winter. They have a daughter, Tamara Zook, of Los Angeles, Calif., and a son, Dana Bob Zook, of Wichita. June 6, 2004 Chism — Tom and Barbara Chism will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on June 8. Chism and the former Barbara Keil were married June 8, 1954, in Tucumcari, N.M. Their children are Sabrina and Bob Suelter of Great Bend and Samantha Chism of Wichita. They have one granddaughter, Chelsee Chism and two step-grandchildren, Jessica Suelter and Adam Suelter. The couple will celebrate with a family vacation later this year. (Wahl) and Paul H. Strecker were married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hays on July 31, 1954. The Streckers lived on a farm at Galatia during their marriage, with Paul working as a farmer and Norma as a music teacher. Children and grandchildren shared their god-given talents in a half-hour program on July 12 at the couple’s home in celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary. A lunch at Meridy’s in Russell followed. Mr. and Mrs. Strecker’s reception was hosted by their children, Rev. Charlotte Strecker-Baseler and husband, Rev. Bill Achatz and Charlene Kasselman were married on Jan. 15, 1955, in Ellinwood. The couple has three grandchildren. Hickel — Joe and Helen Hickel of Ellinwood will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a Mass and family gathering during the holidays at Ellinwood. Joe Hickel and the former Helen McPherson were married Dec. 29, 1954, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays. Mr. Hickel is a veteran of the Korean Conflict, a retired 37-year teacher and administrator in Ellinwood and a former Ellinwood mayor of 10 years. Mrs. Hickel is a retired employee of Security State Bank in Great Bend and Commercial Federal Bank in Ellinwood. The family gathering will be attended by their five children and 12 grandchildren. They are: Diana and Paul Zecha, Steven and Kyle of Hoisington; Bethany (Zecha ) Ramsey and James of Derby; Greg Hickel of Ellinwood; Pam and Rich Koester, Lacey, Brianne, Jackie, MacKenzie and Rylie of Hoisington; Scott and Deb Hickel, Elisha and Joshua of Denver; and Kevin and Angie Hickel, Caden and Greyson of Park City.
