MSN Direct provides customers on the go with relevant, timely, location-specific information along with additional functionality that enables them to integrate their personal navigation device with Live Search Maps and receive enhanced location-specific information. With MSN Direct, customers have access to the following: • • • A new Send to GPS functionality that enables them to select destinations using Live Search Maps and send them from their desktop directly to MSN Direct-enabled navigation devices in their car wirelessly over the MSN Direct network Information on stock prices, local events, news headlines and weather Enhanced movie details, gas prices and expanded traffic information for the U.S. and Canada Microsoft is working with a host of companies, including Alpine Electronics Inc., Garmin Ltd., Goodyear, dmedia System Co. Ltd., Pioneer and StreetDeck, all of which have announced plans to offer personal navigation devices with the newest version of MSN Direct. Details on specific products are below. Garmin nüvi 780 and Garmin nüvi 880 The Garmin nüvi 780 and Garmin nüvi 880 with MSN Direct will be released in April 2008 and will be 1 available for $799.99 (U.S.) and $999.99 (U.S.) (estimated retail prices (ERPs)). Both products include the MSN Direct receiver out of the box and, after an initial three-month free trial, require a subscription. The new Garmin nüvi 780 with MSN Direct features the new Send to GPS functionality that enables customers to select and save destinations using Live Search Maps and send directly to a nüvi device. In addition, these new devices intelligently route drivers based on updated traffic conditions while conveniently displaying information on the latest news, local events, weather, gas prices, movies and more. The Garmin nüvi 5000 will be available for an ERP of $799.99 (U.S.) in spring 2008. As a device enabled with the latest version of MSN Direct, it is equipped with instant up-todate information, including current stock prices, information on local events, news headlines, and enhanced movie details and showtimes, in addition to traffic information, gas prices and weather. The new Send to GPS feature in MSN Direct also allows users to send an address directly to the PND-K3msn from their personal MSN account, for trip planning directly from the user’s PC. New models are expected to be available in spring 2008. dmedia’s G4 promises to bring GPS navigation devices to the next level.
