The UBCIC Research Department is once again holding a free Specific Claims Research Workshop for community researchers, from February 5 - 7, 2008. The workshop introduces new researchers to the basic components of specific claims research and will also provide opportunities for more experienced researchers to refresh and fine-tune their skills. All costs for workshop participants will be covered, including travel to and from Vancouver.
The workshops will start with an introduction to the historical and political context of land issues in British Columbia. Specific workshop sessions include: Developing a research plan Locating documents from provincial and federal ministries Reading maps, survey plans, and field notes Using online resources Digital Resource Testing Opportunity The deadline for registration is January 28, 2008. Rules for Reimbursement
TRAVEL Travel costs to and from the workshop are covered for all participants. Travel by car is covered at a rate of $0.41 per kilometer. Flights are covered at the rate of the lowest possible airfare rate. Receipts of the airfare are required, along with boarding passes (or photocopies of boarding passes). It is necessary to book early in order to get the lowest fare, so flights will be reimbursed at the rate that flights are offered on February 4, 2008 or before. Where no price is indicated on the ticket, the invoice must also be enclosed. Airport parking and/ or taxi fares can be reimbursed if it is economical and receipts are provided. Taxi fare from the hotel to and from the UBCIC office will be covered for two trips per day. Receipts are required for reimbursement. ACCOMMODATION A block of rooms has been set aside for participants at the Best Western Chateau Granville in downtown Vancouver at 1100 Granville Street, under the name “UBCIC,” group number 7087. Please phone the Reservations Manager at 604669-7070 or toll free 1-800-663-0575 to book your room. Participants have until January 21, 2008 to reserve a room at the workshop rate of $83.00 and be guaranteed a room. Costs above the workshop rate will not be reimbursed. Participants are responsible for covering the cost of accommodation up front and will be reimbursed after submission and approval of travel claim form. Receipts are required for reimbursement. MEALS/ PER DIEM A total per diem amount of $41.00 will be provided. This includes $10.00 for breakfast, $20.00 for dinner, and $11.00 for incidentals. Lunch will be provided at UBCIC on each of the three workshop days. All costs above the $41.00 per diem must be covered by participants.
All travel claim forms must be submitted (post-marked) by February 22, 2008. Claims received after that date will not be processed.
