            Walk through the site template options in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0.

            Learn about the configuration and new options around the site template architecture in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0.

Exercise 1 – New Site Template Options in the Site Settings

This exercise will take you through locating the site settings options for Look
and Feel of the site.

Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 has added in many additional methods of                Login using the following credentials:

Exercise 2 –Navigation Options

This exercise will step you through the available Navigation options in the
Site Settings page. This includes Tree View and Quick Launch.

                                   Verify the Portal link now appears.
                                   Click on the New Link toolbar option, the New Link page appears
                                   Complete the form using the following values:
                                         Type the Web address:
                                             http://moss.litwareinc.com/Pages/default.aspx
                                         Type the description: Home
                                         Heading: Portal




                                   Click OK to continue and return to the Quick Launch page.
                                   Click on the Home link in the upper left hand of the page to view your
                                    changes.

Exercise 4 – Top Link Bar

This exercise will step you through the process of editing the display of the
top link bar.

This exercise will step you through the process of editing the icon displayed
in the upper left hand corner of the site.

This exercise will step you through the process of saving your template to the
site collection template gallery and then saving it to your desktop to able to

template.

                o TemplateTitle: Contains the title of the template displayed in the
                    site template gallery
                o TemplateDescription: Contains the description of the template
                    displayed in the site template gallery
                o CustomJSUrl: Allows you to import a javascript file in to all pages
                    in the template
                o EnableTreeView: Toggles the tree view in the left navigation area
                    valid values are 0 (off) and 1 (on)
                o EnableQuickLaunch: Toggles the quick launch in the left
                    navigation area valid values are 0 (off) and 1 (on)
      The next section of note is the SiteFeatures section. This section details the
       site scoped feature IDs that are activated on the site. See the “Using Features
       to Provision Sites in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0” lab for more
       information on features.
      The next section of note is the WebFeatures section. This section details the
       web scoped feature IDs that are activated on the site. See the “Using Features
       to Provision Sites in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0” lab for more
       information on features.
      The next section of note is the Structure section. This section is used to define
       the general navigation structure of the site. This section contains the definition
       of the Top Link bar as well as the Quick launch bar.
      You can locate the beginning of the Quick launch section by searching (ctrl-f)
       the manifest.xml file that appeared for the term “quick launch”. You will see that
       the Quick launch as well as its child nodes is defined as Elements with
       MetaInfo. You can edit the manifest.xml to reorder items in the Quick launch
       which is not possible through the site utilities.
      You can locate the beginning of the Top Link bar section by searching (ctrl-f)
       the manifest.xml file that appeared for the term “sharepoint top navigation bar”.
       Like the Quick Launch all of the child nodes and the top navigation node are
       defined as Elements with MetaInfo.

       understanding of the manifest file that defines the site template in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0.
