FOUR CORNERS AND THE CENTER
DIVERSITY AND COMMONALITY
Purpose: to show both the diversity of Unitarians and how much we actually
have in common. Shows us where we’ve been, where we’re at now, and
where we’re headed on our spiritual journeys.
1. RELIGIOUS ROOTS.
Corner 1 – FUNDAMENTALIST or CONSERVATIVE CHRISTIAN
Corner 2 – MAINSTREAM, MODERATE CHRISTIAN
Corner 3 – CATHOLIC
Corner 4 – Atypical minority traditions including the unchurched:
Unitarian, Jewish, Mormon, Christian Science…
Pick a spokesperson and then take a minute to discuss your thoughts and
feelings about your religious roots. For example, are there aspects of your
religious roots that you treasure or would you rather leave them all behind?
In about 5 minutes, Peter will ring a bell. Then, let’s hear from the
spokesperson for each group. Summarize what was said.
Time’s up! Okay, let’s see what each group has to report…
NOW THAT WE KNOW WHERE WE’VE ALL BEEN, LET’S SEE WHERE
WE’RE AT TODAY…
2. Let’s find out your CURRENT THEOLOGY.
I’ll read off 4 choices. Pick a spokesperson, then discuss why you chose
where you are. Does your current theology reflect:

2) Eclectic approach to non-Christian world religions or
practitioner of one of them
3) Liberal Christian, or those who still feel most comfortable
within the cultural context of our Christian heritage
