       UBW 1001 – Underwater Basket Weaving (Sections 001, 002, 003)

Catalog Description:
An interdisciplinary course that introduces students to the basic techniques of underwater basket
weaving. Students will develop an appreciation of the history and cultural importance of
underwater basket weaving in addition to gaining hands-on experience with and an aesthetic
appreciation of the art form.

Learning Outcomes:
Students will be able to:
1. Explain the history and significance of underwater basket-weaving practices among human
    cultures.
2. Demonstrate an understanding of and apply basic underwater basket-weaving techniques.
3. Demonstrate an ability to make informed aesthetic judgments about specific examples of
    underwater basket weaving.

Modifications Made to Course (based upon review of earlier ICA’s):
Additional lectures added on Central and South American cultures to complement existing
    lectures on African and Asian cultures.
Virtual fieldtrip added to museum fieldtrip in unit three.

Assessment for Student Outcomes for the Course
