          Subd. 2. Recognition of courses. (a)
          Minnesota State Colleges and Universities
          must recognize courses and award educational
          credits for courses that were part of a veteran's
          military training or service if the courses meet
          the standards of the American Council on
          Education or equivalent standards for awarding
          academic credits.

            Part 3, Subpart C.

          Subpart C. Credit for military training or service. Each
            system college and university policy shall reference
            Minnesota Statute 197.775, Subdivision 2, Recognition of
            Courses, which directs Minnesota State Colleges and
            Universities to recognize courses and award credit for a
            veteran’s military training or service if the courses meet the
            standards of the American Council on Education or the
             equivalent.

           Grant Project Goals
           1. Increase the ability for colleges and universities to award
              credit for military training and experience.
              –     Database to relate MOS competencies with training and education
                    programs that is integrated with DARS, u.select (CAS), CEB


           2. Provide up to date, responsive training for academic credit
              in cooperation with the military.
              –     Process for providing credit bearing training for military in general
                    needs areas (e.g., culture, language, financial planning, etc)
              –     Process for assessing needs/coordinating credit-bearing training
                    pertaining to MOS (i.e., military occupational specialty or “job”)
              –     Process for assessing needs/coordinating training to complement
                    military training and enhance employability in the civilian sector
              –     Enhance capabilities to be more “veteran friendly”

           Grant Project Goals
           3. Provide easily accessible computerized tools for veterans
              to identify educational and life planning services to assist
              them in attending higher education
              –     Veterans focused on-line life planning and advising system (e.g.
                    tailoring GPS LifePlan)
              –     Virtual veterans’ center on-line combining interactive on-line and
                    direct human contact ability (iSeek and MyMilitaryEducation.org)


           4. Understand the mental, physical and behavioral health
              needs of students who are veterans to be able to program
              for these needs
              –     Ascertain the mental, physical and behavioral health needs of
                    students who are veterans relative to students in the general
                    population (i.e., survey).
