New bus is within reach… CALENDAR OF
SOCIAL EVENTS FOR 2008
Dear members and friends,
I want to thank all of you who have March 17– St. Patrick’s Day Dinner
generously given financially in the last April 8—Volunteer Recognition
few months in response to my letter that was sent out on December Lunch
11th. If you still have that letter sitting around, or even if you have May 13—Parents’ Day Lunch
misplaced it, it is not too late to make a difference!
June 17—Aloha Luau Dinner
1. The most urgent need is to get a new bus for our center. The July 3—4th of July BBQ
response to this category was great, but we are still about
$25,000 away from being able to buy a brand new, larger, safer, August—Annual Benefit Sale
and more comfortable riding bus. If you would like to help put August 26—Community Open
us “over the top”, please consider a generous donation this House
month. September—Nancy’s Fashion Show
2. The general fund is always in need of additional support, and we October 14—Oktoberfest
didn’t make our goal in this category either. The general fund October 28—Annual Meeting
pays the operating expenses throughout the year. Please November 25—Thanksgiving
remember the Center in your future estate planning. Dinner
3. The capital campaign for a new Senior Center is off to a decent December 19—Christmas Dinner
start, but this will take some major effort and sacrifice to come
to fruition. We are talking with several entities about donating
land, and will keep you posted as things develop. Again, we are
looking for a minimum of two buildable acres in or very close to "Selecting a
Sequim’s city limits and bus lines. Digital Camera"
Thank you for all your support! If you are ready to move from
Michael M. Smith, film to digital photography, or
Executive Director to upgrade from an old to a new
digital camera, this class will
help you to understand pixels,
megapixels, optical vs. digital
zoom, what options to look for,
and how to get the best value
for your money.
This one-day class will meet
FRIDAY
March 14th from
10am to Noon
and is taught by local expert
and volunteer
Valerie Henschel.
The cost is just $8, and the
proceeds benefit the Center's
operating budget.

MARCH 2008
CELEBRATE LOVE ALL YEAR!
February was the “Love Month”, the time when people everywhere express their love
for friends, family, teachers and sweethearts. Wouldn’t it be nice if that loving spirit
lasted throughout the year?
The Sequim Guild for Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center ends the “Love
Month” with a festive BUNCO Party at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church on Friday, February 29th. Great
food, friends and prizes await those who attend. A donation of $10.00 per person is required. Call
Pari at 681-4091 for reservations.
March, then, brings even more opportunities to express our love for children
through Guild activities while enjoying a wonderful breakfast or lunch at The Oak
Table Restaurant! On Tuesday, March 11, 2008, the management is generously
donating all profits to the Uncompensated Care Fund of Children’s Hospital. No
need to make reservations! Just meet your friends and help finance medical
treatments for our children at Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center.
Government Offers Coupons for Digital TV Converter Boxes
Owners of analog televisions now can apply for government coupons to help them pay for
special converter boxes to keep their TVs working after the switch to digital broadcasting on
February 18, 2009. The National Council on Aging (NCOA) and other aging advocates are
concerned that many seniors will lose their programming because they own older televisions.
The TV Converter Box Coupon Program allows U.S. households to obtain up to two coupons, each worth $40,
which can be applied toward the cost of eligible converter boxes. Converter boxes are expected to cost between
$50 and $70 and will be available at most major electronics retail stores.
Individuals can apply for a coupon from now until March 31, 2009, while supplies last. Congress set aside $1.5
billion for the program, which will fund 33.5 million coupons. Coupon applications are available online or at a
24-hour hotline (1-888-DTV-2009).
