Converting Power Point slides to 11x17 posters

Goal

The goal is to get as high a resolution output as possible from low resolution slides. To do
that you need to output as .PDFs which maintain their image resolution as they get bigger
than the standard slide output. Here’s how to do it:

1. Open Power Point

2. Choose File > Page Set Up

2.a
Change “Slides Sized for: On Screen Show” to “Slides Sized for: Custom.” Powerpoint’s
default size is 10.5 x 7.5.

Make sure that the Page Layout is Landscape.

2.b
Change the Printer Page Preferences to 11x17. And again make sure that the layout is in
landscape format. On the MAC you change that by clicking on the options box in the
Page Set Up, which opens a new dialogue box
3. Choose File > Print

Before you send the file to print as a PDF, you have to be sure that the other settings are
set.

3.a
File > Print > Layout
Make sure that you are only “printing” one page per sheet.

3.b
File > Print > Print Settings
Print Quality Settings
Make sure to set this to a high resolution. Powerpoint prepares settings for Photo, Best
Photo, etc. Be sure to use photo as the minimum.
3.c
File> Print
Finally go to print. In the print settings be sure not to scale the image. Save it as a PDF.
And it will come as clean as the images on the power point slide allow. The individual
slides will be around 3 to 5 Mg.
