Preaching the Scripture is the God ordained way to evangelize, disciple and shape the lives of human beings. The primary work of the pastor is to preach the Word of God. The Scriptures are sufficient to realize all of the glorious goals of God. Preaching this ―Word from Another World‖ will build the Church. Sequential preaching through the Word of God, selecting the ―natural‖ preaching portions (pericopes) is the best way to deliver the truth of God’s Word to the human heart (not the only way). Breaking up sequential preaching with portions from other parts of God’s Word is helpful for preacher and people. Being alert to the times, to the work of the Holy Spirit, requires flexibility. Planning is ―Long Term‖ and Preparation is ―Short Term.‖ I have asked God to help me to spend time each morning in both of these pursuits and to spend time each year in deeper reflection about this glorious task. Man proposes and God disposes. Some Goals for our Staff in Sermon Planning You will know where I am going in preaching in order to do your own planning. You will know where I am going in preaching in order to compliment our ministries. A. The preface of the Lord’s Prayer, which is, Our Father which art in heaven, teacheth us to draw near to God with all holy reverence[207] and confidence,[208] as children to a father,[209] able and ready to help us;[210] and that we should pray with and for others.[211] Q. 101. What do we pray for in the first petition?
 A. In the first petition, which is, Hallowed be thy name, we pray that God would enable us, and others, to glorify him in all that whereby he maketh himself known;[212] and that he would dispose all things to his own glory.[213] Q. 102. What do we pray for in the second petition? 2 Q. 102. What do we pray for in the second petition?

 A. The conclusion of the Lord’s Prayer, which is, For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.
