UDELAS Lic. Clinical Neurophysiology. Name: Barrios, Arelis I.D: 9-730-1800 DO YOU KNOW NERVE CONDUCTION STUDIES? According to the manual clinical Electromyography the nerve conduction studies are defined as a study that evaluate the function and anatomic integrate of the nerve structures to peripheral level. This study can be motor or sensory depending to the lesson. The role of neurophysiology technical is perform the study. The technical is responsible to make the correct study and them give the doctor answers the study. The doctor is responsible of read and gives the diagnostic to the patient. Generally the exploration technique performs studies the routine; common nerve as medium nerve, ulnar nerve, radial nerve (in the upper extremities), tibial nerve, peroneal nerve, sural nerve (in the lower extremities). Sometimes the studies perform are specific for the patology as radiculopathy, miopathy, polineuropathy, mononeuropathy, cranial neuropathy, and other patology. These studies are perform with help of the some material as computer, electrodes, stimulator, conductive gel, tape and other implements. In the computer look the waves that are answers to the studies through of specific program. The electrodes are gold and silver, they have form circular, and they measure can be one centimeters. They are responsible for connecting the patient with the computer through of amplification. The stimulation is an electric impulse that stimulates the nerve and evoked an answer. This answer is interpreted for the doctor to give the diagnostic. The most important in these studies is the correct location the electrode in the correct place in the patient. Too the condition of the place or room which makes these studies are adequate for avoid the bad answer and the bad diagnostic.
