Duties: The salary range listed on this announcement does NOT include the 23% tax free
Cost of Living Allowance.
Relocation or Recruitment incentive bonus of $25,000 may be paid.
Serves as senior Cost Engineer on engineering cost estimates for design and construction of
construction projects. Responsible for the' preparation of estimates for all architectural, structural,
and civil engineering features and reviews the estimates prepared by architect/engineers.
Estimates include concept, preliminary control, Fair Cost, and change order estimates. Estimates
shall be prepared using MCACES format. Reviews plans and specifications during the process of
preparing estimates. Prepares estimates for change orders to existing contracts. Prepares cost
estimates for value engineering studies to formulate alternate and more economical designs.
About the Position: The Alaska District mission provides a full spectrum of quality engineering,
technical, and construction support services in support of peacetime and contingency operations
in Alaska and throughout the Pacific Region. We are currently executing the largest program in
our District's history, which is also one of the largest programs within the Corps of Engineers
worldwide family. Emphasis is on program management with government project delivery teams
offering customers cradle to grave project management. We employ approximately 600
professional civilians. Our Northern Area Office on Fort Wainwright manages construction north
of the Alaska Mountain Range and our Southern Area Office on Fort Richardson manages

Specialized Experience to qualify would be 1 year of experience directly related to this
occupation that demonstrates mastery of: Applying cost engineering expertise to a wide range
of complex military and civil works construction projects and structural modifications.
Experience reading and analyzing complex design and architectural drawings and specifications
in order to develop Fair Cost Estimates for budgetary planning purposes. Experience preparing
change orders for existing contracts as well as preparing value engineering studies to formulate
alternate and more economical construction designs.

• Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement.
• In accordance with section 9902(h) of title 5, United States Code, annuitants reemployed in the
Department of Defense shall receive full annuity and salary upon appointment. They shall not be
eligible for retirement contributions, participation in the Thrift Savings Plan, or a supplemental or
redetermined annuity for the reemployment period. Discontinued service retirement annuitants
(i.e., retired under section 8336(d)(1) or 8414(b)(1)(A) of title 5, United States Code) appointed to
the Department of Defense may elect to be subject to retirement provisions of the new

• The initial length of this overseas tour is three years.
• Locality pay does not apply in the overseas area.
• Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is authorized, subject to the provisions of
the Joint Travel Regulations.

the size of the Lower 48. The state supplies 50 percent of the United States' fish harvest and 25
percent of the nation's oil production. Tourism is also important to the state's economy. Climate

Slope. The District reports to Pacific Ocean Division, headquartered in Hawaii.
