G. Don Taylor Jr. comes into his post of president-elect for IIE full of hope. Taylor, the Charles O. Gordon Professor and chief of Virginia Tech's Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, served on IIE's Board of Trustees from 2006-2009 as SVP at large for academics. He said he is passionate about IIE's members and adding value to the institute's products to attract new members. Industrial engineers do many different things, and IIE has done a good job of satisfying the needs of traditional IEs, Taylor said, and is continuing to expand its focus. Taylor said the diversity of industrial engineering will continue to be important as the economy changes. Taylor notes that even government has taken a renewed interest in IEs and IE skills.
