Representatives from the following colleges and universities will be in attendance: Rhodes State College, Wright State University, The University of Toledo, Bowling Green State University, The Ohio State University, Bluffton University, University of Northwestern Ohio, Ohio Northern University, The University of Findlay, Miami Jacobs College, and various others. At 5:00 p.m. Van Wright, a representative of Bowling Green State University, will be giving a presentation in regards to making the transition to college. He has given this type of seminar at numerous schools in the state of Ohio, and it will be very helpful in explaining what you can expect during this exciting time in your life. His presentation will take place in our Large Group Room and will last approximately one-half hour. This will be a great chance to meet with these representatives and plan for the future in a small group setting, so please take advantage of this valuable opportunity. The 2008 Change the World: WiE are the Future program will be held on Friday, November 14, 2008, from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, on the Ohio State campus in Columbus, Ohio. This program is designed to introduce young women to the field of engineering in general and to engineering-related opportunities at Ohio State more specifically. The program is available at no cost to participants, and a continental breakfast and buffet lunch will be provided. Registration for this event is open through Friday, October 31, 2008, and advance registration is required. This information is also available of the World Wide Web at: www.needalift.org Information on The American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program “A Constitutional Speech Contest” is available at www.legion.org. You are eligible to participate in The American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program if you are a citizen or a lawful resident of the U.S. Further, all contestants must be bona fide students under the age of 20 years on the date of the National Contest and must be enrolled in a high school or junior high school (public, parochial, military, private or state accredited home school) in which the curriculum of the high school is considered to be of high school level, commencing with grade nine and terminating with grade twelve. Students must be enrolled in high school or junior high school during the time of participation at any level of the contest. The assigned topic must take no less than three minutes and must not exceed five minutes for time of delivery. Each year, the list of Assigned Topics will be made available prior to the contest and posted on the Legion web site at www.legion.org. Scholarship st nd awards are presented to the three finalists in the Final Round of the National Contest as follows: 1 place=$18,000, 2 place=$16,000, rd 3 place=$14,000. Each Department (State) winner who is certified into and participates in the first round of the National Contest will receive a $1,500 scholarship. Each first round winner who advances to and participates in the second round, but does not advance to the Final Round will receive an additional $1,500 scholarship to pursue education beyond high school. Over the last twelve years, the US Bank Student Banking Division has awarded over $320,000 in scholarships to college-bound high school seniors. If your particular school is not found there, and you cannot pull it off the Internet, see your counselor for help. When filling out the application, read all directions first, making sure to use black ink (do not use pencil.) Bring the completed application to your counselor along with the envelope and application fee (no cash.) Your counselor will then complete any official school information, and add a copy of your transcript along with a confirmation card that will be sent back to us. Mrs. Link will then make note that your application/transcript has been mailed. If you apply over the internet, please make sure that you fill out a transcript request form found in the guidance office. It is a good idea to get your applications sent out as soon as possible, as many schools have application filing dates and deadlines for scholarships.
