NATIONAL HEALTH SERVICE SUPERANNUATION SCHEME
This letter gives information on:-
1. New forms AW140 and AW140A to replace the existing form AW140.
2. Form SD502.
1. FORMS AW140 AND AW140A
At present form AW140 is used to notify PGO when an NHS pensioner is
re-employed, or when a re-employed pensioner's circumstances change. PGO then
use the information on the form to determine whether the NHS Pension should be
abated. Chapter 20 of the EA Guide gives more detailed information.
Unfortunately the system does not always work effectively and PGO often need to
obtain further information. This inevitably delays a decision on abatement. To solve
the problem the current form AW140 will no longer be used. A new form AW140 will
be produced together with an additional form AW140A. Copies of the new forms are

Form AW140 should be used when you re-employ a NHS pensioner FOR THE
Form AW140A should be used if a re-employed pensioner's CIRCUMSTANCES
The new forms ask for more detail, for part-time employees in particular. While the
Branch appreciates that this will cause more work for EAs in the initial completion of
the form it should considerably reduce the number of follow up queries from PGO.
Stocks of the new forms can be ordered from the Department's stationery stores at
Clitheroe in the usual way. To prevent unnecessary reprints of the forms please do
not order more forms than you require. On receipt of the new forms please waste
stocks of the old form AW140.
2. FORM SD502
The latest print of form SD502 dated 5/89 contains an error in the paragraph entitled "To the
employee" which appears at the top of the first page of the form. The error is in the second
half of line 3 of the paragraph. The reference to "part 2 of this form" should read "part A of
this form". EAs are asked to ensure that the forms are amended before they are issued to
