[...] as I will show, Gadamer's poetics, in adopting the dichotomy between true and false testimony, relies too much on the received semantics and pragmatics of the institution of testimony, thereby organizing Ideologically all poetic testimony but also subordinating its singularity to the higher demand for proof and truthfulness. [...] the poetic text of these modern and post-traditional writers, although this is applicable to all poetry, should not be regarded through the more or less historicist prism of factors external to poetry such as its cultural matrix or the poet's psycho-biography.
