In addition to the history of pastoral care, studies on the history of preaching, baptism, catechesis, and the role of the church in healing, have contributed to a widening base of research on local church life and ministry. Through delicate study of manuscripts, the author frames the religious context of her subjects, and provides a multilayered sense of how medieval priests thought about women and how they tried to respond to women parishioners through preaching, teaching, and pastoral care.
