As the weather grew cold in North America, TEI's advocacy efforts heated up with numerous liaison meetings and comment letters. TEI delegations trekked to Ottawa to meet with Canadian officials and skated to Washington for a liaison meeting with members of the Federation of Tax Administrators. In both cases, they worked to warm government officials to the ideas and concerns of business taxpayers. TEI also submitted comment to Pres Obama's Task Force on Tax Reform, the Canadian Department of Finance, and the Wisconsin Department of Revenue. On Sep 23, 2009, the Canadian Department of Finance released draft legislation, explanatory notes, and a backgrounder concerning several measures aimed at improving and streamlining the application of the goods and services tax to pension plan expenses and the financial services sector. In February of this year, Wisconsin joined a growing number of states that have moved from a separate company reporting system to a combined reporting methodology.
