Understanding Global Activity in Higher Education and Research: Primary desk and Web-based research is the result of JISC's look at the UK, US, Germany, Denmark, Australia, Canada, Korea, Japan, the Netherlands and New Zealand seeking an answer to a range of topical questions about the industry. Highlighting examples of innovation across the world, the study reports that the UK is at the forefront of e-learning and e-infrastructure development. The terms e-learning and e-infrastructure, which have been adopted most widely, embrace the themes of the study. The report found that in the 10 countries, the term online learning is understood only as the process of learning delivered by the Internet, rather than the employment of a wide range of technologies and practices to aid learning and teaching which is made possible through ICT in the broadest sense.
