Description: To determine whether sprinklers added significantly to the cost of a home, Weatherby also interviewed several Prince George's County sprinkler contractors, who told him that the per-square-foot cost to install sprinklers in single-family homes in the county had dropped to less than $2 per square foot. According to a policy statement published by the National Association of Home Builders on its website, www.nahb.org, residential sprinklers would significantly increase the cost of building a home, and the need for residential sprinklers in one- and two-family homes is "unsubstantiated."
