Kangra coal is SiO^sub 2^-poor and CaO-rich (42.60 and 10.39 wt% d.b . , respectively) while El Cerrejon coal is SiO^sub 2^-rich and CaO-poor (68 .50 and 3 .86 wt% d.b . , respectively) . This reflects the coal ash mineral composition determined by XRD (Table 2) . The Kangra coal LTA major mineral is kaolinite (66%) with minor amounts of quartz (9%), gypsum, K-feldspar, calcite, pyrite, ankerite and mica.
