The industry "faces a chicken-and-egg dilemma," Bill Van Amburg, senior vice president of Calstart, told Light & Medium Truck. That is because hybrid truck suppliers as a group need to sell between 5,000 and 10,000 units a year to get the price low enough to make the trucks more widely available, but they can't get the volume up because the price is too high, he said. There are about 1,000 hybrid commercial trucks on U.S. roads, Van Amburg said.
