IRS releases draft Form 990 instructions for comment by June 1

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has released for public comment draft
instructions and worksheets for Form 990, Schedule H for tax-exempt hospital
reporting. The draft instructions are organized with a general overview of the
form explaining its purpose, an explanation of who must file that particular
schedule, and line-by-line instructions to aid in answering each question on the
form. Hospitals are encouraged to submit comments by June 1 to ensure the
final instructions are clear and easy to interpret.

The draft instructions will help tax-exempt hospitals complete the redesigned
Form 990 released by the IRS late last year. In tax year 2008, hospitals must
complete only “Part V Facility Information” on Schedule H, while the remaining
sections are not due until tax year 2009. If your organization plans to submit
comments please share a copy with Linda Rouse, director of federal affairs, at
Linda_Rouse@premierinc.com
