Several ITE colleagues passed away recently. One of them, Daniel J. Hanson, died on Aug 8, 2009. Hanson served the transportation profession as an urban traffic engineer from 1951 until 1968 in Champaign, IL, USA; Peoria, IL; St. Louis County, MO, USA; and Washington, DC, USA. He founded the American Transportation Advisory Council, a coalition of transportation-related organizations to help build consensus and support for common positions on transportation needs, funding and user fees. He frequently appeared as a witness before Congress and was widely sought as a speaker. He assisted the Institute in attaining Congressional leaders to speak at ITE meetings.
