The Royal Navy's HMS Collingwood, part of the Maritime Warfare School, is the largest naval training organization in Western Europe. In 2006, the weapon engineering technicians course, which farms the base for future career training, started within Weapon Engineering Training Group (WETG). WETG concluded that the pre-course learning material was not adequately preparing trainees. WETG decided it needed a more interactive and user-friendly pre-course training program. It also wanted an e-learning solution that extended beyond a pre-course program and could be incorporated into traditional training methods as well as for post-course review. WETG chose IMC (UK) Learning's rapid authoring software, Lecturnity. As the program is PowerPoint-based, content production is simplified and trainers can record and produce lessons quickly and easily onto a variety of multimedia formats including a PSP-compatible flash file. Trainee feedback has been extremely positive. The e-media has been well received and recognized as a definite improvement by trainees and instructors alike.
