The primary results from all these studies formed his brilliant candidate dissertation, Ichthyofauna of the Bering Sea and adjacent waters (zoogeography and history of the fish fauna), which he defended in 1937 and published as a book (1939b). Andriashev received many honors for his work, including Honorary Polar Explorer (1947; an award that particularly pleased him), membership in the Academy of Sciences (1966), laureate of the USSR State Premium (1971), the Academician L. S. Berg Prize (1991), honorary memberships in both the European Association of Ichthyologists and the American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists, and membership in the National Geographic Society of the United States.
