							               GUIDELINES ON THE OFFICIAL AUTHORIZATION FORM
                     for UNESCO Cultural Heritage Laws Database



In order to incorporate their national legislation for cultural heritage protection into the UNESCO
Cultural Heritage Laws Database, Member States must comply with the requirements set forth in
the Director-General's Circular Letter 3694 (19 December 2003)
. Accordingly, the national appropriate national authority should provide an official written
authorization permitting UNESCO:
     -         to use, as it deems appropriate (in line with the request of UNESCO’s Director-General in
               his Circular-Letter 3694), and reproduce the national legislation and export and/or import
               certificate(s) on its website and in its publications, and
     -         to establish an automatic hyperlink from the “UNESCO Cultural Heritage Laws
               Database” (www.unesco.org/culture/natlaws) to the official government website(s).




The OFFICIAL AUTHORIZATION FORM for UNESCO Cultural Heritage Laws Database was
drawn up to help you in this endeavour. To submit your national legislation, you should therefore:
1)       Open and fill out on line the OFFICIAL AUTHORIZATION FORM:
               Click on the “highlight Fields” button to see fields to be filled out.
               Fields in red-color are obligatory.
               The other fields are not obligatory but should be filled out as far as possible to comply
                with all Director-General's requirements (see DG’s Circular Letter 3694).
2)       You cannot save data typed into this Form : if you would like a copy for your records, please
         print your completed form.
         or:
         You can saved data typed into this Form, if you would like a copy for your records.
3)       When finished, click the “Submit Form” button to return the completed form.
         An email is automatically generated to the UNESCO Cultural Heritage Laws Database.
4)       Please print your completed Form, sign it by hand and send very shortly by ordinary mail this
         Form duly signed and stamped by the appropriate national authority.
         National legislation must be sent in electronic format as specified in the OFFICIAL
         AUTHORIZATION FORM (either by diskette, CD-Rom or email).

submission will be accepted without both the electronic AND certified versions of the
OFFICIAL AUTHORIZATION FORM.
