Political Party Statement of Purpose
While third parties in the United States rarely get elected at the national level they are still an important part of our political system. Now that you know a little bit about both the Republican and Democratic parties it is time to explore other parties. For this assignment you will need to write a political party statement of purpose for your own third party. That’s right! You get to make up a third party that represents the issues and topics that most concern you! In your statement of purpose remember to include what type of individuals or groups your party will attract and what types of issues your party will focus on. Make sure to include on issue/topic from the following categories: * The economy (i.e. trade with other countries, taxes, foreign aid) * Moral issues (i.e. capital punishment, gay marriage, right to life) * National security (i.e. immigration, securing our borders) * The war in Iraq (i.e. US presence until a democracy comes about, withdrawal of troops, support for soldiers when they come home) * Education (i.e. merit based pay for teachers, improving public education, standardized tests) * Environment (i.e. tips to help reduce energy costs, transportation) * Criminal activity (i.e. reducing violent crimes, addressing the 2nd amendment) * Health care (i.e. universal health care system, individual health insurance plans)
