BAND COMPETITION
Rules & Regulations
1. This competition is only for BB Companies in Malaysia. Each Company is only
allowed ONE entry for each category. All members of the band must be participants
of the Pesta.
2. The competition is divided into two categories
FLUTE AND BUGLE
BRASS
3. Each Band must consist of not less than twenty (20) members and one (1) Drum –
Major.
4. Members aged 12-19 years as at 1 January 2003 are eligible to participate.
5. Staff-sergeants who are 20 years and below on 1 January 2003 are allowed to be a
Drum – Major.
6. Presentation should not exceed 12 minutes and must include :
QUICK MARCH
SLOW MARCH
STATIONARY DISPLAY
VARIETY OF FORMATION
7. Music selections must include two of the three categories of songs:
CHRISTIAN
BOYS' BRIGADE
PATRIOTIC
8. For FLUTE & BUGLE CATEGORY, any marching band percussion instruments
may be used including the bell lyre, cymbal etc. Trumpets CANNOT replace the
bugles and concert flute is NOT allowed.
9. In the event when there are two or less teams participating in any of the
CATEGORIES above, the Organizer will convert into a MIXED BAND CATEGORY
competition. In this case any marching band instruments may be used
10. Band members and Drum-Major shall wear full ceremonial uniform according to BB
Uniform Regulations as at 1 January 1999. (Gloves, anklets, neck- scarves, band-
lanyards and sash worn over the left bearing the BB emblem are the only additional
items allowed).
11. Each band will be judged on the following categories
INSPECTION uniform, instruments, decorations
MUSIC harmony, clarity, compulsory songs
DRILL marching and formation
DRUM MAJOR mace work, conducting, smartness, drill
12. The competition for each category (as in rule #2) will only be carried out provided
the category has three or more entries.
13. A panel of judges will be appointed by the Pesta Organising Committee with the
approval of the Brigade Competition Chairman. The decision of the judges will be
final. No comments, objections or complaints shall be entertained. The Organising
Committee reserves the right to make any alterations when deemed necessary.
14. Practices will only be allowed at a designated time and place during the Pesta.
15. Please direct all enquiries to the BBM Headquarters.
16. Entry form must be submitted to BBM Headquarters by 30 September 2003.
