    Born in the Black Forest in Germany. Heiko Kalmbach is a filmmaker, theater director and
 video artist based in Berlin and New York.

    In the early 90’s, after his Civil Service, Heiko Kalmbach worked with German Off-Theater Companies as
 an actor and director. In 2003 he reengaged with live performance as a director and video artist. VERMISST,
 which he directed at Theaterhaus Jena in 2006, was invited to DRAMAFEST in Mexico City and Puebla. His
 production of KNOCK OUT was invited to the Autorentheatertage 2008 in Hamburg. His video work in theater
 incorporates live video mixing and pre-produced material for large-scale stage productions.

    Heiko Kalmbach began creating short films and videos in 1994. His award winning pieces have screened at
 venues like the Goethe Institutes in Paris and New York, and at Festivals like Oberhausen, São Paulo and
 South By Southwest. The video piece CONTROLLED premiered at PILOT:1, International Artforum London in
 2004. His feature length documentary on Turner prize winning photographer Wolfgang Tillmans premiered at
 the Berlin International Film Festival 2008.
