									                           RESEARCH PROJECT DIRECTIONS 1

BEGINNING THE RESEARCH PROJECT:
1. Students must choose a play for their report (to be done in class). They must then
choose a specific thesis to concentrate on by Act 3.
2. Students will be expected to gather their own information, either during library time
   or on their own.
3. Students must print or photocopy all pages of their sources being used and highlight
all info being used. Citation information on the source must be provided.
4. Students must use and properly cite a minimum of nine quotes, direct or indirect, in
the body paragraphs: at least one from each source and six from the text.

DIRECTIONS FOR WRITING THE RESEARCH REPORT:
1. Report must be typed in a standard black 12-point font (Arial or Times Roman),
double-spaced, and have 1” margins. See website link: Multi-paragraph essays
2. Report will include a title page, the essay, and a works cited page. An Appendix is
optional. This would include any pictures or commentaries on plays, etc. that you
   may want to share.
3. Report is to be written using the MLA format but with a cover (title) page. This page
will include the name of the play, your own “title” of the paper, your name, etc.
4. Papers will be graded using Holistic format but converted into A through F grades.

FORM OF THE ESSAY:
1. Introduction must have a clear thesis statement that states your topic.
2. The paper should consist of a minimum of four paragraphs and information should
    be presented following an outline.
3. The paper must be at least 600 words in length. (Title Page, Quotes, References,
and Appendix, are not included in the length requirement.)
4. The Final Version of your paper will be cleanly typed with no editing marks.

THE FOLLOWING WILL BE SUBMITTED TOGETHER IN A MANILA ENVELOPE:

FINAL PAPER: Stapled together top to bottom
      1. Title Page
      2. Outline
      3. Essay
      4. Works cited
      5. Appendix (if applicable)

Also in the envelope, stapled to themselves, include:
- Rough draft with any comments and editing
- Peer editing sheets (2)

Everything must be included to receive a final grade.
