It is around the year 590 B.C.E. and King Nebuchadnezzar has hired you to
sketch an architectural design for the city of Babylon according to his specifications.
Specifications
 (F.Y.I.) The Euphrates River cuts through the middle of the city
 The city needs to have a ziggurat that is about 70ft tall. Look on pg. 45 of your
textbook for an explanation of what this is.
 A moat needs to surround the city along with massive walls several miles long.
 The city needs a large gate entrance
 The roads in the city are paved with brick
 A palace for the king and queen is required
 The king has requested that as part of the palace there be a large, multi-story
hanging garden for his home sick wife
 The city may also have designs for additional temples and other standard
     buildings
 Any decorations used for the gate, walls, or palace should feature lions or bulls.

      2. Please only choose this option if you will make an effort to create something
         nice.
      3. The city may be drawn from any perspective/angle.
      4. You may focus on certain parts of the city and ignores others in your sketch.
Grading/Expectations

specifications. (You only have to do the major features, not the entire city)
    Regular-size, non-lined paper is appropriate
 You are graded on the amount of detail you put into the drawing, how nice it
looks, and whether you include all of the above instructions. (50 pts)

(Option #2 is on the back)
Option #2-3D Model
Overview
This assignment is the same as option #1 however; instead of creating an art drawing of
a city plan you are to create a 3-D model plan for the city of Babylon. This means you
can use construction paper, clay, and anything else. However, I do not want this model to
be larger than three regular size pieces of paper put together.
Grading/Expectations
 You are graded on the amount of detail you put into the model, how nice it looks,
and whether you include all of the instructions as listed on page one. (50pts)

     creative phrasing.

Option #5 Writing/Research
Overview
The year is 480 B.C.E. and the Persian Empire under Xerses has suffered a heavy
defeat by the Greeks. Therefore, in order to restore pride within the empire, the king has
hired you to write a brief history of Mesopotamian civilization that inspires and reminds
people of their greatness.
Instructions
You are to research the basic facts of the topics listed at the bottom of the page
using primarily your textbook (pgs. 45-50, 73-78). Other resources, like an encyclopedia
or the internet are optional. After you research the topics, you are to compose an overall
history of Mesopotamia till 480 B.C.E. that would be inspirational to someone of that
time period. This means that you are not just to write the facts, but write the information
so that it comes off as making Middle Eastern history sound great. Remember this is the
time before critical history, so use creative adjectives and spin the history.
Guidelines
 For each of the five topics below there should be at least one paragraph.
 Under each the five topics there is a list of subtopics and the number required
that have to be discussed in each paragraph.
 The paragraphs should have creative headings similar to your textbook
 Don’t just state facts; make the history into a story that makes the people prideful.
 Play close attention to tense when doing this assignment.
 This assignment should be typed, and around 1 ½ to two pages double-spaced.
 Any illustrations would be considered above and beyond the requirements.
Grading
 Eight points per paragraph depending on whether or not the listed topics are
covered and the amount of detail included.
 Ten points for following all the listed guidelines
