                                  Reflection on Algebra Class


This assignment is worth one quiz grade.

Requirements

      Name, date, period and title on first page
      12 point font, Times New Roman or Ariel font, and 1-1.25” margins must be used
       (these are already set up if you open a word document)
      Double space the essay
      Use Standard English (no slang or txt writing)
      Each paragraph must be a minimum of 5 sentences.
      Total essay must be a minimum of 350 words
      Due at the end of the period on Block Day

Include the following with your essay

           1. Rough draft
           2. Peer Review Sheet
           3. Teacher Grading Rubric


Essay Outline

Introductory Paragraph:        Introduce your main ideas.


Paragraph 2:     What did you learn in Algebra this semester and why is it important to
                learn about this?
                This could include, but is not limited to, what you learned about mathematics,
                yourself, working with others, your learning style, and your work/study habits.

Paragraph 3: What did you do really well this semester in Algebra and what did you not
             do so well?
             This could include, but is not limited to, study habits, test taking, completing
             homework and classwork, being loud or disruptive in class, tardies, absences,
             helping others, bringing materials to class, and using electronics in class.

Paragraph 4: How are you going to improve in Algebra next semester?
             This could include, but is not limited to, what specific goals you are going to set
             for yourself, what steps are you going to take to accomplish these goals, and
             how can your family, friends and teachers help you.

Concluding Paragraph:          Restate the main ideas of your essay.
                                           Timeline
Tuesday (Jan 6th)

       Classwork (39 min):

               Write the first draft of your essay. Start by answering the questions. Organize
               your thoughts and ideas. Decide how you will introduce and close your essay.

       Homework:

                If you did not complete the first draft of your essay, it is homework. A
               complete first draft is due for Block Day.

       *** If you are a slow typist, you should type your first draft and save it to a memory
       disk or email it to yourself to bring to school on Block Day. ***



Block Day (Jan 7th)

               10 min: Peer Review of Essay
               Use the form provided by Ms. Field and have at least 1 student read your essay.
               The student will give you feedback on your essay. You will also read another
               student’s essay and give them feedback.


               50 minutes: Revise your essay. Use the feedback from other students to
               improve and revise your essay.

               Go to the computer lab:

               Type and print your essay. Save or email yourself the essay in case it does not
               print or Ms. Field does not receive it. Remember to spell check your essay.
               Your essay is due at the end of the period. It is considered late if it is not
               turned in by the end of the period.
