The social climate of the school:
The college has a year-based care groups form P-12, which are generally small in size, ensuring
students are known by their care group teacher. Pastoral Care programs begin with Christian studies
lessons, where students are taught to care for others as God cares for them. Other specialised
programs focus upon self esteem, career counselling, work experience and life-skills and study skills.

Value-Adding at St Stephens
Students can move up or down to different levels in Maths and English in the primary years
Students can easily study subjects in advance of their peer group in senior years
An increase in number of ascertained students and students with learning difficulties suggests a
valued, caring environment where students can grow at their own pace
An effective work experience program for year 10 students and opportunity to visit career expos
together with scheduled career advice makes them more ready to leave school and make
informed decisions.
Parent, student and teacher satisfaction:
Satisfaction data:
While the college did not conduct satisfaction surveys in 2008, parents and students in various
year levels were interviewed re satisfaction with their schooling to date and what they were
looking for in the future. Coffee Chats were conducted after each Friday Chapel, where the Head
of College was available to generally chat and listen to concerns in an informal setting. All yr 7
and yr10 students and their parents were formally interviewed re their schooling and learning
journey both currently and for the future.
Our school enrolment numbers have increased by 14% in 2007/8 without the addition of any
extra classes. Our teachers have remained with us over the last few years and St Stephens is
seen as a supportive, pleasant place to work. We have sought and hired very capable new staff
and had little difficulty attracting interested and capable talent.
