HOMELINK: Summary of Annual Report
for Barcombe PCC AGM 2009
Lewes District Churches HOMELINK works within Lewes and the
surrounding areas, offering interest-free loans to those with little or no savings
who wish to rent in the private sector. Since 1998, it has helped over 120
people into accommodation.
Over the past year, there have been 55 applications, 32 interviews, 28 loan
offers and 13 new tenancies. Offering people a fresh start, by enabling them to
secure accommodation, has brought about increased emotional and mental
stability, leading to some commencing new employment or accessing courses.
Some changes have occurred within Homelink this year. Amy Cronshaw has
replaced Howard, who retired, as Co-ordinator, and, as well as working with
Lewes District Council Housing Department, Homelink representatives are
now meeting regularly with the Homelessness Resource Officer.
In the coming year, Homelink plans to work with Sussex Pathways, to support
mentored ex- prisoners in their accessing accommodation. Volunteers are
needed to help with secretarial tasks, interviewing clients and fund-raising.
The Annual Meeting will be on Wednesday 13th May at 8pm at the Baptist
Church Hall, Church Hill, Newhaven and is open to everybody. Sholto
Haggart, the Homelessness Resources Officer, will be speaking, plus Caroline
Mayhew, Chair of Sussex Pathways. If you would like to know more about
Homelink’s work, this is a great opportunity to do so. Do put the date in your
diary and continue to pray for all involved with the HOMELINK scheme.
Thanks to all who have supported their work in the past few years.
