OFFICE BUILDING, BEIJING CHINA, 2010 - DAY A small middle-aged Chinese male administrative CLERK is kneeled working in front of a four feet high safe dialing the combination. A green neon light flashes through the window across his body. He opens the heavy door. The clerk pulls out an ornate small book with jade covers. CLOSE ON THE BOOK - The small book's jade front cover has a fierce dragon carved in it. The slim man closes the safe door and puts the book in his coat pocket looking around the office. A burly heavy Chinese man comes in the room and sees the clerk. CHINESE MAN (Chinese sub-titled) Hey, what are you doing? The kneeling clerk pauses then jumps up and runs across the long open room to an open door. The big man goes after him. INT. OFFICE BUILDING HALL They run out of the office and down a long hall. A guard at the end of the hall turns toward the action. CHINESE MAN Shoot that thief. He pulls an automatic pistol from his shoulder holster and raises his arm to shoot. The clerk sees him then turns. He opens a door and rushes down a staircase. The big man is right behind him. Hey! CHINESE MAN (CONT’D) The clerk jumps over the rail of the stairs to the floor below. (CONTINUED) 2. CONTINUED: The Chinese man is too big to jump. He appears frustrated and rushes forward. EXT. BEIJING CHINA CITY ALLEY The clerk rushes out of the building into the alley. He bumps into two men carrying cartons into the old building slowing him down. The big man hurries out of the building and abruptly grabs him. CHINESE MAN Got ya little pig. The clerk sidekicks the man and they begin to fight swinging and dodging each other. The small clerk thrust his fist into the man's throat with a thud. The big man is choking and goes to his knees. The small clerk walks on and disappears into the main street crowd leaving the choking man behind. Two guards rush out of the side door ready for action. They see the big man choking and go to him looking around the area. EXT. COUNTRY TRAIL ON THE EASTERN CHINESE BORDER CROSSING INTO TIBET, WINTER, CIRCA 2010 – NIGHT A mid-twenties athletic looking Chinese man walks steadily along the baron and rough moonlit trail. He is a secret COURIER wearing a hooded heavy cotton robe tailored to fit in with the peasants he walks with. The courier’s eyes scan the area hoping for an easy border crossing. The vigilant courier gazes straight ahead as he passes a few peasants pulling carts and walking toward the crossing that lies just ahead. The man’s pace steadfastly approaches an eerily dark bend in the narrow trail. He sees a shadow move near the only low hanging tree that covers the dark bend in the road. The courier is getting closer to the eerie curve that lies not far from the high security portage. The young courier watches the darkest areas of the road closely for danger. Abruptly a fluttering bird flies from obscurity inside a bush and surprises him. He suddenly comes on guard. (CONTINUED) 3. CONTINUED: The courier is shocked for a moment as his eyes scan the area. He settles down and walks on while still watching vigilantly. The mysterious messenger keeps his hood-covered head slightly down while his keen eyes continue to search the area. As he gets closer to the dark turn in the trail a man abruptly appears from the shadows standing in the middle of the trail. The young courier comes on guard in a Wushu martial arts stance. The man from the darkness quickly hands the courier a small cryptic brown envelope secured by a wax seal and a note on the front in Chinese script. CLOSE ON THE ENVELOPE They nod at each other and keep moving as the courier puts the envelope away. The stealth messenger disappears into the shadows around the bend. The leery courier quietly continues on toward the dark turn and is suddenly and abruptly attacked by an unknown large Asian man with a long ornamented dagger. The young man fights him off by blocking his attack. They stand in a fighting stance and study each other. The attacker rushes toward the courier again trying to stab him. He thrust at the young man over and over again while the messenger skillfully dodges. The well-trained courier sidesteps and sweeps the man’s feet from under him and he falls hard on the packed ground of the trail. The quick runner spins around and punches his attacker in the head as he rises up. The bad man shakes his big head and recovers. He gets to his feet and quickly attacks again with the dagger in his ready hand. As the aggressor begins his attack the agile courier kicks his arm causing the big man to stab himself deep in his front shoulder at the same time breaking the thugs arm. The man falls to the ground wounded and bleeding out of breath. He weakly looks up at the courier waiting for the deathblow. The courier suddenly puts his foot on the top of the protruding dagger and slams it deeper in the wound. The bad man scowls in pain. (CONTINUED) 4. CONTINUED: The agile courier silently looks at the evil doer for a moment and walks on. The bleeding assailant helplessly watches his intended victim move down the trail. He is too weak to move from his spot on the ground and lies back. EXT. HIGH MOUNTAIN TRAIL NEAR LHASA TIBET The clerk from Beijing wearing a heavy coat walks the trail leading to the mountain top. A Tibetan monk dressed against the cold appears from around a curve in the trail. He stops in front of the clerk. The small clerk hands him a small box wrapped in brown paper and tied with crude sting. The monk hands him a leather bag filled with mysterious content. The clerk looks inside checking. He nods it is okay. CLERK (English) Be careful Monk. MONK God will watch over me. CLERK You may want to help him. Times are treacherous. The monk acknowledges and walks on. The clerk goes back in the direction he came from. EXT. EASTERN CHINESE BORDER CROSSING INTO TIBET Two robust and rough looking Chinese Army border guards stand next to a small gray guard shack. They hold Chinese automatic assault rifles as part of keeping the security. They closely watch all passers on the rough dirt road as they approach. Two other guards check people coming through the checkpoint. CHINESE GUARD (Chinese sub-titled) Get in line. Have your papers ready. SUB-TITLE APPEARS – OCTOBER, 2010, HIGH SECURITY EASTERN BORDER CROSSING BETWEEN CHINA AND TIBET. The courier continues toward the crossing getting closer and closer. The two security guards look his way. (CONTINUED) 5. CONTINUED: He adjust the mysterious brown envelope to be sure it is out of sight. The courier walks a few more feet to the busy and wellguarded border crossing and stops in a short line waiting to go through the checkpoint. The heavily armed Chinese soldiers are checking everyone thoroughly. It is the courier’s turn in line. He steps forward and shows his official papers. The crude looking guard snatches the crude documents. He looks them over closely then gazes at the messenger suspiciously. CHINESE GUARD (CONT’D) Why are you entering Tibet? The bold courier is becoming a little nervous but remains calm. COURIER (Chinese sub-titled) To visit fam… A drunken peasant bumps into the courier and the guard interrupting them. The guard wrestles with the drunk to hold him up and motions for the courier to go on and get out of the way. DRUNK (Chinese sub-titled) Is this the ministry of agriculture? I want to buy a duck. CHINESE GUARD Go away peasant. The courier moves on through the crossing and glances back as he quickly walks. The drunken man looks at the young courier with a knowing smile and continues to stumble with the patient guard holding him up and pushing him away. The relieved courier moves steadily down the cold and windblown rutted trail toward a high mountain peak in the distance. DISSOLVE TO: 6. EXT. HIGH MOUNTAIN TRAIL NEAR LHASA TIBET – DAWN A twenty feet high stone Buddha is carved into the rocky hillside. It stands next to the high baron mountain trail. The Buddha is painted brilliant gold with contrasting blue hair. The magnificent statute glistens in the breathtaking sunrise. A very old Buddhist MONK wearing a maroon rob walks from a small hidden doorway chiseled in the hillside that is next to the religious symbol. A large burning oil torch is stuck in a hole in the wall near the entry. It lights the trail and the entrance to the monks sanctuary. The mysterious courier appears from around a sharp corner of the trail and walks to the monk. The untiring monk watches him just waiting. The courier gives the recluse religious figure his hidden brown envelope. The monks looks it over and then looks at the courier. The hermit breaks the wax seal and opens the worn envelope. He looks inside for a moment and then takes out a parchment paper reading it. He put the envelope and paper away. The monk takes out a small box wrapped in brown paper and tied with crude string from under his robe and gives it to the patient courier. MONK Get this safely to our friend in America. The monk turns to the burning torch and touches the envelope to the yellow flame and watches it turn to ash. The courier bows as he turns and moves down the rough trail with the crude little box. MONK (CONT’D) Be careful I have been told these are treacherous times. The monk smiles at the courier’s image. The courier gives the monk a casual back handed wave as he walks on. The monk then turns and disappears inside the mountain entrance. The courier curiously glances back toward the monk's last location. He then looks forward and sees the image of a big man wearing a light wool robe with a loose fitting hood over his head moving steadily toward him. (CONTINUED) 7. CONTINUED: The hooded man suddenly draws a long ornate dagger with a gold hilt. He rushes toward the young courier. The courier breaks into a full run clutching the package like a football. The rugged looking assailant is closing on the fleet courier. The dark rogue stops and throws his elaborate dagger. The messenger is hit with a thud in the shoulder blade. He falls forward and drops the brown paper package. The courier falls to the ground with the polished dagger protruding from his back. The brave courier crawls to the package. He takes it in hand and crawls on to the edge of the bluff. His assailant is moving toward him. The courier drops the package over the edge. The plain package falls and rolls down the side of the bluff. It bounces from a small jagged ledge and is caught by another young courier that waits on the winding rocky trail below. The wounded young man looks over the edge of high bluff. The messenger can see the waiting courier that is looking up at him. He motions for him to go on. The waiting courier disappears into the dark shadows of the hillside trail. The bold assailant draws another dagger and jumps up on a rock next to his wounded victim hoping to see the retreating messenger. He sees nothing but open trail. The Assassin ignores the courier and quickly pursues the package. DISSOLVE TO: EXT. PRESIDENT WILLIAM J. CLINTON PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY & UNIVERSITY OF PUBLIC SERVICE, LITTLE ROCK, AR. – DAY A small Presidential Motorcade consisting of two black Chevrolet Suburban’s and two Cadillac limousine transports roll down the long boulevard to the Clinton Presidential Library. They stop at a side entrance where a black Cadillac sedan waits. 8. SUB-TITLE APPEARS – MAY, 2011 PRESIDENT WILLIAM J. CLINTON PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY & UNIVERSITY OF PUBLIC SERVICE, LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS. Past President Bill Clinton gets out of his limousine with his bodyguards. He hands a small box wrapped in brown paper tied with string to two formal looking men standing next to the waiting Cadillac. They nod and get back inside their car. The driver starts the car and the vehicle move away. President Clinton watches them for a minute then smiles and walks inside through the side entrance of the library with his security people in tow. FLIP FRAME: CLOSE ON – A NEWSPAPER, A NEW YORK TIMES HEADLINE – THE CHINESE BOOK OF JADE SURFACES IN TIBET. NAMES, CRIMINALS AND DIRTY DEEDS? WHERE IS IT NOW? EXT. CAPITOL LUXURY HOTEL, DOWNTOWN LITTLE ROCK AR. – DAY The new black Cadillac from the Clinton Library stops near the front door of the beautiful hotel. As the driver gets out of the car his gun is visible from under his dark suit coat. He routinely opens the back door and the two men from the Clinton Library get out and walk toward the door of the hotel. The driver gives the car keys to a uniformed valet and follows the men inside. INT. CAPITOL DOWNTOWN LUXURY HOTEL The two men and their bodyguard walk to the front desk to check in. One of the men hands the box wrapped in brown paper to the clerk. He takes the box and signs a paper for the man. The men sign the register, take the hotel keys and walk on. EXT. CAPITOL DOWNTOWN LUXURY HOTEL A new Black Jaguar XJ sedan stops on the street outside the hotel. BARTHOLOMEW ROTH, a tall and distinguished middle-aged man gets out of the car and walks toward the hotel. Two average looking European men in their thirties stop the rented sedan they are driving in a parking place and get out. ALEXANDER ROMANOFF, a Russian KGB agent walks with his partner URIE BRUNHENNER casually toward the hotel. (CONTINUED) 9. CONTINUED: ALEXANDER (Russian accent) Urie, we geet the book from these piece ants. No violence if we can avoid it and go home. I hate these place. URIE (Russian accent) Lot of trouble for a leettle book. Alexander smiles and pats his friend on the back as they walk. ALEXANDER That Leettle book genius, will make us rich. We may share weth the government if they're nice and arrest who we ask them to. URIE I like rich. Makes me feel good, like peeg in sheet. ALEXANDER You sound like cowboy at bar. What is peeg in sheet? URIE Happy peeg. They smile and walk on. INT. CAPITOL DOWNTOWN LUXURY HOTEL Bartholomew walks inside the lobby and opens his vibrating folding cellular phone. He pushes a button. ROTH Yes, thank you. He closes his phone and puts it in his pocket. Mr. Roth walks a few feet and up the broad Rococo wrought iron stairs leading to the second floor. He moves from the broad staircase and walks a short distance to a discreet fire escape stairs. He opens the door and moves inside. Alexander and Urie quietly walk inside the lobby. 10. INT. HOTEL FIRE ESCAPE STAIRCASE Mr. Roth moves confidently up the plain concrete steps. He stops at the third floor entrance marked by a sign on the wall near the door. Bartholomew opens the heavy metal door slowly and looks down the hall. ROTH P.O.V. INSIDE THE STAIRCASE ENTRANCE TO OUTSIDE HALL - He sees the two men’s bodyguard in front of their hotel room door fifty feet away. BACK TO SCENE Bartholomew closes the door. He takes a thin folded white waiter’s jacket from under his suit coat. He puts it on over his suit. Bartholomew then takes his automatic pistol from his shoulder holster and a silencer from his coat pocket. Bart screws the silencer on the pistol. He cleans the gun with a cloth for prints and slides the pistol in his front belt holding it with the cleaning cloth. Bart then puts on white rubber gloves. Bart takes his gun out and opens the door. INT.DOWNTOWN CAPITOL LUXURY HOTEL HALL For a split second the guard is unaware then he suddenly looks toward Bartholomew Roth. Bartholomew swiftly raises his silenced automatic pistol and fires two times. The zipping bullets hit the guard in the chest and he drops to the floor. Mr. Roth quickly moves in and kicks the thick hotel door open. INT.DOWNTOWN CAPITOL LUXURY HOTEL ROOM Inside the room Roth moves in and shoots one of the two men and points his pistol at the other man. The man raises his hands. Roth quickly goes to his prisoner and puts his gun to his head. ROTH Where’s the book? (the man is silent) The book or you die. (CONTINUED) 11. CONTINUED: The man remains silent just looking at Roth. ROTH (CONT’D) On your knees. Roth cocks his automatic and the man gets on his knees. Bartholomew looks over at a business card lying on top of a nearby table. Hello. He picks it up. CLOSE ON THE BUSINESS CARD – DOCTOR CONFUCIUS CHANG, Professor of International affairs, President William J. Clinton University of Public Services, 1200 President Clinton Ave. 72201, 501/555-3333. Alexander steps into the doorway with his gun drawn on Roth. ALEXANDER Stand fast. Where is book? Roth smiles. ROTH That's my line. ALEXANDER The book idiot. Roth looks at his prisoner. Alexander shoots the man in the head. The book. ALEXANDER (CONT’D) ROTH (CONT’D) Urie steps in the room behind Alexander and Roth takes the advantage and pulls out a revolver from his back belt and shoots Urie. Urie falls back and slams against the wall then hits the floor dead. Alexander begins to shoot at Roth as he takes cover. Alexander is hit in the leg and drops to the floor. Roth leaves the room shooting. 12. INT. CAPITOL LUXURY HOTEL HALL KATE, a hotel maid in her fifties is straightening her maid cart as she pushes it along. She sees Roth. Kate then look on the floor and sees the dead guard and glances up to see the broken door. Roth is looking at her sadly. Kate just stares not believing what she is seeing. Mr. Roth? KATE Roth keeps his eyes fixed on her. ROTH Sorry Kate. Bart shoots her two times in the heart she wilts to the floor. Roth looks around and walks out looking down at Kate as he passes by. He walks out the fire escape exit putting the card in his pocket. Alexander is up. He looks at Urie and quickly checks his pulse. He limps out the doorway looking for Roth the turns back at his friend. ALEXANDER I am sorry Urie. I will keel this man for you. DISSOLVE TO: EXT. PRESIDENT WILLIAM J. CLINTON PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY AND UNIVERSITY OF PUBLIC SERVICE ERIC, A young athletic delivery man stops his UPS box truck at the curb and jumps out with a smile on his face carrying the small box still wrapped in a plain brown wrapper now with a UPS delivery sticker on it. He walks through the front doors and goes inside. INT. PRESIDENT WILLIAM J. CLINTON PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY AND UNIVERSITY OF PUBLIC SERVICE Eric moves inside smiling cheerful. He casually hangs onto the box. (CONTINUED) 13. CONTINUED: JUNE, A cocky heavy set well-tailored female security guard stands at the front security deck directly blocking Eric’s path. She appears grim. JUNE Where are you going Eric? Eric stops in front of June still smiling. ERIC Hi June. I’m taking this package to professor Chang. June is amused. JUNE Well, Doctor Chang a lang gotta wait till I check this plain brown wrapper for bombs and such. Eric smirks. ERIC Okay, get it on. He’s waiting. June takes the small package and slowly scans it with a large metal detecting wand while giving Eric an incriminating glance. She continues to look the box over as Eric waits patiently. JUNE Have you looked in the box? ERIC No, that's against the law. JUNE Since when has that stopped you? ERIC Since I been a law student. JUNE When was that yesterday? ERIC Come on June. I got a schedule here. JUNE Me too, I a government employee. (CONTINUED) 14. CONTINUED: (2) ERIC Not all of us get to work from twelve to one and take an hour for lunch. She sets the little box on her table and bends over looking at it closely. JUNE Umm, ahh. Okay. Eric is amused and relaxes by crossing his arms and patiently waiting. ERIC Come on Deputy Donut. You gotta be hourly. JUNE Yeah and proud of it. I'm an American working woman. ERIC You're An American. June ignores him and continues to look the small package over. She takes out a handheld bomb sniffing metal box with a snorkel on it. June scans the package with the flexible snorkel hose. June stops and sets the bomb sniffer back in its place with a thud and hands the parcel to Eric. She looks from under her eye brows at Eric. JUNE You got lucky future criminal of America. I’m watching you. Eric takes the package and walks toward the hall to the school speaking as he goes. ERIC Thanks Detective Monk. He proceeds down the hall of the school. JUNE I’m Federal Security, Mr. Crime Wave, watch yourself. Eric is amused and waves a dismissal as he continues to walk down the long tiled corridor toward Doctor Chang’s classroom. ERIC Right, federal insecurity. (CONTINUED) 15. CONTINUED: (3) He stops beside a sign on the wall and looks up. CLOSE ON THE SIGN - DOCTOR CONFUCIUS CHANG, Professor of International Affairs. Eric opens the door and steps inside. INT. PRESIDENT WILLIAM JEFFERSON CLINTON PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY AND UNIVERSITY OF PUBLIC SERVICE CLASSROOM PROFESSOR CONFUCIUS CHANG, a handsome and classy Chinese man in his mid to late forties is at a large green chalkboard lecturing to a class of twenty. CONFUCIUS (Chinese accent) The international free world community is… Confucius stops and looks at Eric. Eric stands by the front door to the class room and pushes out his clipboard with the package to Confucius. ERIC Hey, Doctor Chang. Sorry to interrupt. Confucius stops and goes to him. He signs the paper on the clipboard and takes the package. CONFUCIUS Thank you Eric. (lies the parcel on his nearby desk and turns to Eric) I have a tip for you. (Eric has a new interest in the doctor.) Man who smoke pot, choke on handle. Eric grins and speaks as he leaves. ERIC The other Confucius say, panties not best thing on earth, but next to it. Professor Chang smiles turns back to his students. His cell phone rings. (CONTINUED) 16. CONTINUED: CONFUCIUS Class dismissed. Read chapter twelve. The students leave as he answers the cell phone. Hello. CONFUCIUS (CONT’D) The voice on the other line is Chief of police, MARIAM KING, a middle-aged attractive woman. KING (TELEPHONE V.O.) Mr. Chang, this is Chief of Police, Miriam King. President Clinton told me to call you. He said you were the best criminal detective in the world. Chang smiles as he talks on the phone. CONFUCIUS Thank you, but my retirement from Interpol ended my career as a crime detective. I am now simple career educator. The chief is determined. KING (TELEPHONE V.O.) Listen, we got four murders at The Capitol Hotel. Where you come in is, the three men that were killed were Inter Pol coming to see you. Chang is surprised. CONFUCIUS What for, I am humble professor? King pushes him to help. KING (TELEPHONE V.O.) We don’t know, but we need to solve this before it goes International. Bill said he knew you would help. You work at the school and all. Chang relaxes a little. (CONTINUED) 17. CONTINUED: (2) CONFUCIUS Okay, President is persuasive man and employs me, even more persuasive. What would you like for me to do? Kings voice perks up. KING (TELEPHONE V.O.) Good, meet me at the hotel, third floor. Can you do it now? Confucius’ voice is reluctant. CONFUCIUS Yes, fifteen minutes. Need time to digest murder news. You know Chief, murder doesn’t determine who is right. Only determine who is left. KING (TELEPHONE V.O.) Don’t let your karma run over your Dogma professor. The chief hangs up, as does Chang. Confucius thinks for a moment about what the Chief of Police said and smiles. Chang picks up the parcel and walks from the room. EXT. DOWNTOWN CAPITOL LUXURY HOTEL MIKHAIL PETROV, a heavy short man drives Chang in his white nineteen sixty-two pristine large Mercedes sedan. Chang looks out from the back seat. Mikhail continues driving Chang to the side of the hotel where a few police cars are parked. Mikhail parks the car and opens the back door for Mr. Chang. Confucius gets out of the car and they walk to the hotel. CONFUCIUS Be on best behavior. We are consulting murder case. MIKHAIL People are dying for you to consult. 18. INT. DOWNTOWN CAPITOL LUXURY HOTEL LOBBY Confucius and Mikhail walk up the broad stairs of the hotel at the foot of the lobby. They enter the long hall that leads to the rooms where the crime was committed. INT. DOWNTOWN CAPITOL LUXURY HOTEL HALL Three crime scene police technicians are kneeling on the carpet working the murder site. Chief of police King walks to Confucius and Mikhail. She sticks out her hand to Confucius and they shake. KING Hello Doctor Chang, thank you for coming. Confucius is less formal. CONFUCIUS Please I am Confucius. (turns to his driver) This is Mikhail Petrov, my driver and most excellent assistant. I don’t drive. Mikhail smiles and nods to the chief in a flirtacious way. MIKHAIL My pleasure. Tommy Chang, a handsome mid-twenties Chinese man steps in through the staircase doorway. He is smiling. TOMMY Hey pop, Mikhail. Mr. Chang is proud of his son. CONFUCIUS Chief King this is first son, Tommy. Name him after gun. Gym teacher now, always help father without request. The chief welcomes Tommy. KING Welcome Tommy. I understand you are a very good detective also. Tommy smiles modestly. (CONTINUED) 19. CONTINUED: TOMMY Well, I guess you could say that. Mikhail can’t restrain himself. He mutters to himself. MIKHAIL Good and defective she means. Tommy glances at Mikhail but ignores the remark. TOMMY Thanks chief. How can I star in this psychodrama. Confucius kneels looking at the maid’s body. CONFUCIUS Tommy son, you and Mikhail check bodies for information. Father will star as psycho. (takes ink pin from his suit coat pocket and uses it to probe the maid’s clothes) I know this poor woman, not criminal or associate with criminal. Poor soul is harmed witness. You can take her to morgue and notify family. Simply shot for seeing. Tommy and Mikhail are checking the area as they leave. The chief motions for a coroner’s assistant to take the maid away. KING What do you think so far professor? Confucius smiles and stands. CONFUCIUS It takes many nails to build a crib, but only one screw to fill it. Answer later. Don't want big screw up. The chief is mildly amused. Tommy sticks his head out of the door. TOMMY Pop, come in here. (CONTINUED) 20. CONTINUED: (2) Mr. Chang nods to the chief of police. The chief and he go into the hotel room. EXT. DOWNTOWN CAPITOL LUXURY HOTEL ROOM Confucius and Chief King come in and look at Tommy. Tommy is kneeling beside the body in the middle of the room while Mikhail goes through the clothing of the other body in the background. TOMMY Pop, this is Tony Ling. Confucius appears very sad and kneels beside the body looking at his old friend. He checks his suit pockets and the material then looks close at his face. CONFUCIUS Sorry old friend. Tommy call his family when you are finished. Confucius stands with his son looking at Chief King. INSIDE TO OUTSIDE - The front door frame of the sedan takes a bullet near a bad man’s head and he ducks. BACK TO SCENE Confucius quickly moves to the front door. CONFUCIUS P.O.V. INSIDE TO OUTSIDE – The vehicle’s doors slam shut as it speeds away. An old woman looks out her front door watching Confucius and the car. More security guards can be heard in the distance coming down the hall. Roth looks at Confucius then back at the advancing guards. Tommy is watching Roth closely. He sees Li is close to him. TOMMY Get him Li. Eric rushes Roth. Out of instinct Roth shoots at Tommy. Tommy dodges and ducks down. Li smiles looking at Roth and Tommy seeing her brother is safe. SIXTH STREET CHURCH Li moves through some high scrubs for cover watching the vacant church building. LI P.O.V. She sees two men sitting in a sedan at the front of the church watching the front door and the street. Li looks to the side of the building. She can see two men. One is next to the building walking and looking. The other is sitting on a park bench watching the street and the building. BACK TO SCENE Li puts a silencer on her UMP 45. She aims and fires two shots. They hit the driver and his head falls to side, down for the count. Li fire again the passenger is looking around and suddenly falls over in the seat. Tommy and Eric are moving down the side of the church looking in the windows. TOMMY P.O.V. He can see the kids playing with toys while two guards watch them. He looks across the room and sees his mother duck taped to a chair. He looks a little further and sees Makhail sitting drinking coffee with Roth. BACK TO SCENE Tommy hears a faint noise. He and Eric perk up looking. 77. TOMMY P.O.V. He turns to see a guard pulling his pistol to shoot him. Suddenly he hears two silencer shoots and the guard goes down. He then hears two more silencer shots. He looks and the guard on the bench goes down. The back door of the church opens and a guard steps out. More silencer shots are heard and the man goes down. Eric and Tommy silently look at the evolving scene. Li steps from the shadows and motions with her head while holding her weapon with both hands for Tommy and Eric to move inside. ERIC That's my woman. Tommy raises and eyebrow and moves out with Eric following. Tommy quickly moves to the back door with Li and Eric following. Confucius steps from the side of the building and joins them. They move quietly inside. TOMMY Slow it down, eyes open this is where it gets hot. INT. SIXTH STREET CHURCH Confucius looks around a corner to see his family and the criminals. He whispers. CONFUCIUS Mikhail is sitting with Roth. Has he gone to the other side? Tommy is looking. Confucius and Donna move to the children. They take Ling, Beauty and Loe by the hands then move toward the back door. A guard from outside comes in and attacks Confucius. Eric suddenly intervenes and speaks as he side kicks the man. ERIC Go, take the car and get out of here. The man is up attacking Eric. Tommy drops to the floor to dodge bullets from Roth that has recovered his weapon from the floor. Mikhail suddenly knocks Roth weapon from his hand again with his uninjured arm. Roth attacks Mikhail. PRIVATE RIVER PORT – NIGHT A cabin cruiser motors to a dock and is tried off by a waiting deck hand. Roth gets off the boat looking around. He speaks to the deck hand. ROTH There’s a woman on board. Feed her and give her some water. The deck hand goes about Roth’s business of taking care Donna and Roth walks on. Sergeant Hart is dragging a leg as if he is crippled while dressed in dirty street clothes watching the boat and Roth. Roth passes him looking him over. CHARLES Hey man, you got a dollar. TOMMY ERIC Yeah, him. Bunch of houses. Let's go. TOMMY They start to work their way toward the boat. Suddenly a custom drag boat speeds into the area with three men aboard. It slams along side of cabin cruiser and the three men start shooting at the two guards on the cruiser deck. The cruiser guards shoot back. They wound a man in the drag boat and he falls overboard. Confucius, Eric and Tommy charge the scene. (CONTINUED) 96. CONTINUED: (2) A guard on the cruiser shoots at them. They dodge the bullet and keep coming. People in the area scatter and scream. Tommy pulls out his pistol and shoots back at the guards on the cruiser. They duck as more bullets from the drag boat zing around them. Eric pulls out a big forty-five automatic and shoots back blowing holes in the boat. Confucius is surprised by Eric. CONFUCIUS Be careful where you shoot Eric. Mother and Li may be on boat. Eric nods and keeps shooting. Got ya. ERIC Tommy is running across the gang plank to the cruiser. Eric jumps up and follows him. A guard cuts the rope that anchors the cruiser to the dock. Another man starts the engine and the cruiser begins to pull away from the dock. Confucius rushes the boat. The gang plank falls and Eric jumps. He reaches the deck of the cruiser and is shot at by both sets of people on the cruiser and the drag boat. Confucius jumps on the drag boat from the dock. He begins to fight with the two men knocking the men’s guns from their hands and pushing one overboard. Confucius focuses on the last shooter and they begin to fight. A guard from the cruiser shoots at them. Confucius dodges the bullets. He quickly knocks the gunman he is fighting with overboard. He looks up. Confucius sees Tommy and Eric fighting on the deck of the cruiser as it speeds south down river. Confucius gets in the driver’s seat of the speed boat and quickly learns how to start it. He speeds after the big cruiser. (CONTINUED) 97. CONTINUED: (3) Confucius quickly catches the powerful cruiser and slams into the side of it. He slams it again and again. Confucius looks back. Another drag boat is quickly gaining on Confucius and the cruiser. Suddenly the approaching boat is close enough to see all on board. Benny Whang is sitting up front holding an automatic rifle with two of his armed men. They begin to fire at Confucius. Bullets rip down the side of Confucius boat. Suddenly Tommy and Eric take notice and start shooting at Benny and his men. Benny's henchman steers the speed boat away dodging the bullets. Roth come on the helm and shoots at Tommy, Eric and then Benny. All three shoot back. Suddenly a bigger cruiser is coming directly toward the speeding boats with the two smiling Russians on board. Alexander takes a rifle with a scope from the floor and aims it. Roth ducks a barrage of bullets from Benny's boat. Benny's boat takes on gunfire from the distant Russians. INT. CABIN CRUISER Some of the Bullets rip through the hull and hit next to Donna and Li where they are tied up. EXT. RIVER Confucius slams into the cruiser again and glances off. Benny and his men begin to shoot at Roth. Benny and his people are penned down and Tommy goes below deck covered by Eric. Alexander and Frank are still speeding toward a shoot out with Roth and Benny. Alexander is shooting rapid fire at them. (CONTINUED) 98. CONTINUED: Confucius slams his powerful boat into the cruiser again and holds it against the big cruiser finally causing it to go off course. Benny’s boat comes along side Confucius and Benny’s men try to get on board. Confucius scuffles with the men and they fall overboard. The Russian big boat is on top of the scene. They cut away from the river bank for open water trying to get out of the way. Roth's cabin cruiser is pushed against airborne along with Confucius boat and boat is clipped in the rear causing it river bank and slide to a stop, flying the bank and becomes Benny’s. The Russian's to turn and hit the apart as it goes. Confucius, Benny and Roth's boats have crashed in a field in splinters. Eric and Confucius are thrown into the muddy field and roll to a stop. Benny and his men fly through the air and hit the ground hard. EXT. LIGHTLY WOODED FIELD Confucius boat is jammed against a tree and Benny’s next to it. Confucius lies near a tree trying to wake up. Benny is weakly getting up and looking around trying to gain his senses. Eric is near him weakly standing. Eric gets a tree limb and smack Benny across the head and he falls back knocked out. Eric walks toward the cabin cruiser. One of Benny's men gets up staggering to a tree to brace himself trying to recover. The cabin cruiser is sitting between two trees smoking. Roth is in the tower jammed through the glass windshield. The two Russian are down river two hundred feet, but they are weakly crawling from their boat. Tommy lies outside bleeding from the mouth knocked out. Confucius stands. Benny comes around and attacks him. Confucius is frustrated and angry. He begins to sidekick and slam against Benny. Benny doesn’t have a chance he is knocked out with a final blow and Confucius turns to Tommy. (CONTINUED) 99. CONTINUED: Eric quickly turns to Benny's henchman that is against the tree. Eric takes him down with a blow to the side of the head with a boat paddle. Down boy. ERIC He moves toward Tommy. Confucius is moving next to Tommy. Confucius stops and kneels. He takes Tommy in his arms. Tears are in Confucius eyes and running down his cheeks. CONFUCIUS Oh, my little boy, I love you. So sorry you got in this. Tommy’s eyes open. Eric smiles looking down at him. Hey dude. Tommy smiles. Pop? TOMMY ERIC Eric kneels by Tommy. Confucius looks at his son. CONFUCIUS You alive? Thank you, God. ERIC How ya doing bro? Tommy smiles looking at his father and nods. Eric pats him. Tommy smiles. TOMMY We're still alive? ERIC I going to check on your mom and sister. You'll be okay? Tommy nods. Eric stands and heads for the broken cruiser. Tommy looks at his father. TOMMY Pop, Packin iron paid off. (CONTINUED) 100. CONTINUED: (2) Confucius smiles and rubs his sons forehead. CONFUCIUS Don’t push it heathen boy. I got to check on mom and sister now. I'll be back. TOMMY I'm going, that's my momma and little sister. Tommy smiles and gets up weakly. Confucius stands with him. They reluctantly walk to a large hole in the hull of the cruiser to look in. Li crawls out of the hole with a large cut on her head a little dazed and sits on the ground. Li nods yes and points inside. Confucius rushes toward the hole in the cruiser. Tommy and Li watch the hole. Li is dialing her cell phone. Eric immerges from the cabin cruiser with Donna in his arms. Confucius goes to his side. Eric lies her on the ground looking at her. Confucius goes to his knees checking her out. CONFUCIUS You are going to be all right. I will be sure of that. Li closes her phone and puts it away. She goes to her mother and begins to check her pulse and her body for damage. Eric goes to Li. LI Way ta go tiger. Alexander and Frank are standing behind them. (CONTINUED) 101. CONTINUED: (3) ALEXANDER Yes tiger, everything all right when Alexander and Frank get book. Tommy looks at them by just moving his eyes without moving his head. CONFUCIUS You may have the damn book. I hope it curses you forever. Confucius jerks the book from his pocket and throws it at their feet. Alexander bends to pick it up. Tommy suddenly side kicks Frank and Eric puts his foot on the book. Alexander raises up and hits Eric. Eric begins to fight with Alexander. Tommy is fighting With Frank and knocks him out. Eric finally has Alexander subdued on the ground with his arm pushed behind his back. Confucius has tears in his eyes as he kneels over is beloved wife not considering the danger of the fight with the Russians. Tommy comforts him looking sadly at his mother. TOMMY Is mother all right? Donna opens her eyes and looks up at her husband. DONNA I love you. I knew you would come. Sirens are heard and an ambulance and police cars are stopping next to them. Guess so. TOMMY CONFUCIUS I would never leave the woman I love. Donna hugs Confucius. Tommy and Li go and hug their mother. She looks up as the police take Alexander from Eric. Eric gets up and picks up the jade book. He wipes mud from the dragon cover. (CONTINUED) 102. CONTINUED: (4) DONNA Thank you Eric. Eric appears modest. ERIC It was nothin. The police take the Russians away. Li is smiling broadly. LI That's my man. Donna looks at Confucius as Eric gives the jade book to Confucius. DONNA Are the children all right? Confucius puts the book in his pocket and touches her cheek. He nods yes then looks at Eric and Tommy. CONFUCIUS Thank you Eric. Thank you Tommy and daughter. Confucius takes the Book of Jade from his pocket and two crumpled pieces of paper from his pocket. He looks at the men in suits. CONFUCIUS Interpol? (the men nod) Are you inspector Gold? INSPECTOR GOLD, a strong looking middle-aged man nods. INSPECTOR GOLD Yes, Professor Chang? Confucius nods. Confucius hands him the book and papers. The inspector gives the book and papers to his assistant and talks into a radio. Two blacked-out Suburban’s drive from the road next to the sedan. CONFUCIUS I have been waiting for you. The translation is there. You will find big names and many crimes. Inspector Gold extends his hand to shake. They shake hands. INSPECTOR GOLD Thank you Doctor Chang. He turns and goes to his family where Donna is being loaded in the ambulance and Li, Eric and Tommy are getting inside. Confucius gets in with his family without looking back. A policeman shuts the door and the ambulance drives away. Benny and Roth are bandaged up and the police are taking them away. The Russians look out of a security van under guard. INT. AMBULANCE Everyone in the ambulance is solemn focused on Donna and the paramedic that is taking care of her. Donna smiles at her husband. CONFUCIUS Marriage is like game of poker.
