It is with sadness that people learnt of the death of the Institute of Management Services' first director and general secretary, Ted King. King suffered a heart attack and died on Aug 4, 2009, at his home in Bishops Stortford, Hertfordshire. In 1964, King was recruited by the then Institute of Work Study to be the first Director and General Secretary of the rapidly growing Institute. During his 25 years in office with the Institute, King addressed countless Region, Branch and Specialist Group meetings, both in the UK and abroad. He presented papers to international conferences, as well as the many Institute conferences and seminars in this country. Much changed in his 25 years as Director: a great deal of it due to his foresight in building a management team.
