7. What were the result of the assessment(s)?
All students taking OFTEC 280 have completed a portfolio. A portfolio grading rubric was used to evaluate the content, organization,
and quality of the portfolio. The quality of the work demonstrated in the organization and content of student portfolios varied greatly.
The OFTEC faculty saw a need to better inform students about the portfolio requirement early in their program, so that they can do a
better job of collecting and organizing their work as they progress through the program.

8. How were the results used to improve?
To better prepare students for the portfolio project, an OFTEC Program Handbook was created and distributed to new program
students Fall Quarter 2007. A page in the handbook is devoted to the portfolio project. The handbook is distributed to students in
OFTEC 110 Introduction to OFTEC and the portfolio project is discussed in this introductory class.
OFTEC 280 students will be given a copy of the portfolio grading rubric at the beginning the course, so that they will know exactly
how the portfolio will be assessed prior to submitting it for evaluation.

accounting data.

7. What were the result of the assessment(s)?
All of the students completing OFTEC 280 on the MV campus wrote a reflection paper during the 2006-07 school year. (Whidbey students will be
writing the reflection paper beginning 2007-08.) Instructors used a grading rubric for evaluating the quality of reflection, organization, and writing
conventions in the reflection papers. The results revealed that most students provided thoughtful reflection about their learning and wrote favorably about
the communication, technology, and accounting skills they acquired. Copies of the OFTEC 280 reflection papers are being maintained in a departmental
notebook.

8. How were the results used to improve?
To help students reflect upon their learning at the end of their OFTEC program, the OFTEC faculty designed a self-assessment tool for students to assess
their communication, technology, and accounting skills early in their program (during the introductory OFTEC 110 course). After completing the self-
assessment tool, the new program students will also develop a learning plan that they will follow and can update as they progress through the program.
The self-assessment and learning plan will be used as a point of reference by students as they write their reflection paper in the capstone OFTEC 280
course. The self-assessment and learning plan were implemented in OFTEC 110 during Fall Quarter 2007. Copies of the self-assessments and learning
plan will be maintained in a departmental notebook with the reflection papers.

7. What were the result of the assessment(s)?
All students completing an OFTEC ATA degree did complete OFTEC 199 Cooperative Education. Copies of supervisor evaluations
and student self-evaluations are being maintained in a departmental notebook for faculty review. Responses from the supervisor
evaluations are also being maintained in a database. The results of the supervisor evaluations revealed that students consistently scored
above average on dependability, attitude, human relations, quality of work, skills improvement, and overall performance. Supervisor
comments reveal that students are well prepared by SVC. Additional training needs recommended by employers were for industry- or
task-specific skills. Employers also recommended that students gain more work experience.

8. How were the results used to improve?
Job postings are maintained on a departmental bulletin board and students are being encouraged to gain as much work experience as
possible prior to graduation.
