1 SECTOR OVERVIEW
Following expansion at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 39.06% between 2005 and 2009, the retail buildings
in BRIC reached a value of US$18.6 billion in 2009, which represented an increase of 22.1% on 2008. The market
achieved its strongest performance in 2007 with a growth of 46.3% over its previous year and its weakest performance
was witnessed in 2009, when it increased to 22.1% over 2008.

The retail buildings category was the fastest growing construction sector in the commercial construction market between
2005 and 2009 and achieved a CAGR of 39.06%. The weakest performer was other commercial construction, which
achieved only a CAGR of 8.57%.

By 2009, the retail buildings accounted for 11.3% of the commercial construction market. In comparison, office buildings
represented 45.4% share, while other commercial construction generated a further 19.7% of the market's 2009 share.

reaching a value of US$43.2 billion in 2014. This represents a total growth of 769.1% from 2005 and 132.4% from 2009.
