Following expansion at a compound annual growth rate of -5.23% between 2005-2009, the new multi-family housing
construction sector in Thailand reached a value of US$656.28 million in 2009, which represented a decrease of 10.42%
on 2008. The market achieved its strongest performance in 2006 when it expanded by 0.17% and its weakest
performance in 2009, when it fell by 10.42%.
In comparison, the fastest growing construction sector of the residential construction market between 2005-2009 was
the residential building redevelopment construction sector, which achieved a CAGR of 1.65%. The weakest performer
was single-family housing, which was observed a CARC of 6.13%
By 2009, the new multi-family housing accounted for 20.89% of the residential construction. In comparison, residential
building redevelopment represented 42.25% while single-family housing generated a further 36.86% of the market's
2009 share.
Looking ahead, the new multi-family housing market is expected to expand at a CARC of 0.81% between 2009-2014,
reaching a value of US$ 630.22 million in 2014. This represents total decline of 22.53% since 2005 and 3.97% since
2009.
In comparison, the fastest growing construction sector of the residential construction market between 2009-2014 is
expected to be residential building redevelopment, which is predicted to achieve a CAGR of 3.41% The weakest
performer is expected to be single-family housing, which is forecast a CARC of 1.37%.
By 2014, the new multi-family housing is forecast to account for 19.21% of the residential construction. In comparison,
residential building redevelopment is predicted to account for 47.85%, while single-family housing is expected to
generate a further 32.95% of the market's 2014 share.
