The location for the event is the province of San José, Costa Rica’s
capital. It was the first province founded in the country, and it was
instituted as capital in 1823. Its administrative center is the city of San
José where the majority of the population is concentrated. Presently
it holds 20 cantons and 111 districts.

Headquarters for the three powers of the Republic are in San Jose:
Presidency of the Republic, Legislative Assembly and Judiciary
Supreme Court, as well as the Electoral Supreme Court. In addition it
has the greatest number of museums, art galleries and other
recreation centers.

A small stretch of land, this province is bordered by mountain ranges
and crossed by some sierras. This results in a very varied landscape:
to the north side massifs forming the Volcanic Central Mountain
Range rise; on the southeast we find those from the Talamanca
Mountain Range; on the southwest, the Avocado mountain row; and
finally, the Bustamante mountain row is located within the province.
San José has an area of 4.960 square kilometers, where it houses
1.435.447 people, who are known with the name of “josefinos”.

      Next September 16th to 18th, 2010 the
      XI th International Congress of
 Geomatics: Geodesy, Topography and
       Cadastre in Real Time
will take place in the city of San Jose, Costa Rica.

The Professional Association of Engineering
Surveyors of Costa Rica (CIT), through its
Continuous Education Commission, has been
hard at work shaping the content of this activity.

This year, the main subject of the Congress will

be Geomatics as a discipline that integrates
capture and processing of geo-spatial data.
