ABC'S OF HOSPITALITY
by Howard Cutson
W... Word of Mouth
Everyone knows that word of mouth is the best advertising. It is, provided
it’s positive word of mouth.
Bottom line: What people say about you is only as good as their most
recent experience with you.
No one succeeds by resting on his or her past reputation. Tony Athanas,
owner of the world famous Anthony’s Pier 4 in Boston, said it best.
As he looked at the walls filled with plaques and awards from every
foodservice and community association in and around Boston and
beyond, he commented, “Those awards don’t mean anything – you’re
only as good as your last meal.”
Your employees want to work in a clean, organized, safe, secure, pleasant
environment – one that positively affects them emotionally, physically
and psychologically. As a manager, you provide that environment. If it’s
not there, they leave. It’s as simple as that.
