Speaking about his signature tenor vocals [PETER CETERA] remarks, "I kinda joke about it on stage. I say ? bet even today you can walk onto an elevator or into your dentist's office and hear my voice. And tonight I'm going to put the name, with the face, with the voice.' (Pause) "A lot of people know my name but most people only know my voice. And ior years I've had people come up to me and say ? know you. ..who are you?' And I never say who I am," he admits, sounding amused. Cetera explains that this habit came about because, "one time a long time ago after someone said the ? know you.. .who are you?' line and I replied 'well.. .I'm Peter Cetera!' the person replied 'WHO?' and I never forgot that.""First of all it's funny because people think that all I did was write love song ballads," Cetera began, speaking from his Sun Valley, Idaho home. "It just so happens that that's what people like," adds the singer/songwriter/musician. "The ballads were the ones that stick with people." (Pauses) "Not that I'm touting love songs but you're right, there is nothing around today outside of country songs. I don't know if it's a cycle that we're going through, or if wanting to be sentimental in any way, shape, or form musically is not considered (laughs) cooool. But I think that is the state of music now. Even a love song today... a ballad, still has an edge to it," he emphasizes. "I just don't hear many standards out there today that are being written."
