This document provides a template letter to be sent by a company to a job applicant in
order to inform the applicant that the company has selected a different candidate for the
given position. Companies or human resources departments should use this template
letter to politely let a candidate know that he or she has not been selected for
employment with the company. This document is intended to supply standard language
and can be customized to fit the individual needs of an employer.
Thank you for applying for the position of [JOB TITLE]. We appreciate your interest in
working for [COMPANY NAME], and enjoyed meeting you.
I’m writing to inform you that although we were impressed by your credentials, we have
decided to fill the position with another candidate whose qualifications and a background
we felt were a better fit for the job.
Thank you for your time. We wish you the best of luck in your job search and career.
