their student population.
The Future of Learning
Appealing to the next generation of learners is about
building a social knowledge network where
information and ideas flow freely across physical and
geographic boundaries, a place where anyone is a
student and everyone is a teacher.
The concept of social learning is rooted in the notion
that knowledge is socially constructed and that
learning is best achieved through dialogue,
collaboration, and transparent of sharing of
information across a community.
Social Constructivism
• The Instructional Design philosophy that
says the people learn best when they:
– Interact with the learning material
– Construct new material for others
– Collaborate with other students about the
material
Hmm … looks like ……
To Socrates, knowledge was not something you would merely sit back and absorb, like some
mental sponge, but was to be continually tested and questioned. Not as efficient, but more
stimulating, and it was the question that provided the motive and measure of truth.
Why Is This Possible Now?
Suddenly it is possible to imagine a new model of education using online resources
to serve more students, more effectively, and more cheaply than ever before.
