Politicai and religious groups that argue they do not condone physical violence, are as culpable of using physical violence, as emotional violence affects not only those against whom these groups are speaking, but the promulgation of hate incites people to untold levels of violence, from beatings, shootings and further emotional distress. From Homer's protagonist, Achilles, and his love of Patroclus in the Iliad, to the notion of "gay marriage" in pre-modern Europe, i.e., before the 16th and 17th century C.E., on to the modern West.
