									Collaborative Earthquake Relief Effort for Haiti

Receiving Food, Clothing and Monetary (Direct to Relief Organizations)

In just several hours we have begun to organize a massive relief effort that
includes over 50 organizations and individuals, representing both Haitian and
non-Haitians--all unified by our desire to respond to this disaster. From Civil
Rights Organizations to small businesses and elected officials to club promoters
and black frats/sororities to Latino professional groups, we will attempt to
gather our various constituencies for a day of fundraising, live entertainment
and discussion. Please encourage people to bring their entire families.

The following email is intended to provide you with some important details
regarding the fundraiser. If you have a question, please direct them to the
appropriate person (identified below). We are asking organizations and
individuals to contribute $20, if possible, on Saturday toward the food and
drinks we'll purchase, clean up and supplies. To make this contribution, please
ask for Marvin Venay on Saturday, upon arrival.


Jimmy Lebon of Haitian Brothers Network Nationwide (H.B.N.N.) or is our Lead Host and have been
engaged in relief efforts for Haiti for years. They are organizing the Live
Entertainment for Saturday. We are asking all "conscious" poets (open mic),
graphic artists, dancers, rappers and musicians to come through. We will have
impromptu performances throughout the day, mostly aimed at paying tribute to
Haiti...and uplifting the spirits of all those in attendance. Liz Miranda of
Hot97 FM Radio will be working to identify and invite DJs to
attend Saturday's event.

Cheryl Crawford of MassVote ( is working with Jimmy Lebon
(H.B.N.N.), Patty Deschineau and Manolia Charlotin (Haiti 2015) to identify and
invite the appropriate Relief Organizations to be on hand Saturday. Our goal is
to have all contributions go directly to these reputable relief groups and we
will ask for assurances that what's raised will make it to Haiti. They will
also figure out if we have the capacity to collect food and cloths on such short

Rachel Hall (RHALL@PARTNERS.ORG) is Coordinating Volunteers for Saturday. We'll
need help throughout the day with signage, setup (chairs and tables), receiving
supplies, placement of food and drinks, directions, entertainment, clean up,
etc. Please contact her with your interest in volunteering (you and/or members
of your organization).

Tanisha Sullivan ( and Nell, both of Delta Sigma
Theta Sorority, Inc., have agreed to coordinate the food for Saturday. This
food is for all those that attend...not for shipping to Haiti. We are aiming to
provide just light food and refreshments.

Daniella and Dominique Gutierrez of Twins & Friends ( and are
coordinating the marketing of the event. They have begun working with a
designer on an e-flyer and flyer that will provide images of the devastation,
along with a listing of all the organizations co-hosting this event. We need a
FINAL confirmation on groups by 10am please email Michael Curry
asap if you would like to be added ( Attached, please find a
listing of our hosting/sponsoring organizations.

We anticipate Courtney Grey of the Boston Public Health Commission will be on
hand with grief counselors, if needed. We've invited Representatives St. Fleur
and Dorcena-Forry to make remarks, as well as other State Representatives and
Senators. Ideally, we'll have an educational session on Haiti, explanation of
the conditions pre-earthquake and an up-to-date assessment of the damage and
loss of life by our Haitian Representatives. We are also requesting all
organizations that have access to Haitian historical, cultural and demographic
information to attend with materials (displays, pictures, charts, Powerpoint
presentations, etc.)...and RSVP by contacting

On Site Business Donations - We have received several calls regarding businesses
that want to provide donations to Haiti and are interested in attending the
event with their check. We will announce major donations (individual or
business) throughout the day and appreciate the interest in making this gift on
Saturday. If your employer wants to contribute, please contact Cheryl Crawford
of MassVote, who will confirm the Relief Organizations that will be on hand.
Hibernian Hall's security company has offered to provide FREE security.

Liz Miranda of Hot97 will be the contact for all media
interested in covering the event. She will ensure all interviews reflect the
wide Diaspora of co-hosts behind this fundraiser. Our messaging for Saturday is
one of "cross-cultural unity in support of Haiti" and "this is partly an
awareness campaign on the devastation that existed after the hurricanes and has
been exacerbated by the recent earthquake."
