Minutes – 19 September, 2006 meeting Attended: Donna Dykeman, Anja Lanz, Arma, Sue Baldwin, Nicole Bennett, Jenn, Elizabeth Croft, Neda, Monica Danon-Schaffer Recapped what NEW@UBC is: how it started, accomplished during the 2005-2006 season and laid out the plans for the 2006-2007 terms. Main reason for NEW@UBC’s existence is to support women in engineering at all levels: undergrad, grad, academe, industry. Another objective of NEW@UBC: Increase connections to DAWEG and SCWIST as well as outreach activities First activity this term: 22 September, 2006 – Brown bag lunch on scholarships for women in SET (science, engineering & technology) Second activity this term: 12 October 2006 – Career path event with Senator Lillian Dyck (6-8 pm; venue TBA) Third activity this term: 3 November 2006 – NEW@UBC monthly coffee/tea talk; first time ever – initiated by women professors telling us how they got to where they are today. Preliminary discussion regarding the Building Communities Event – slated for early Fall 2007. People interested should contact Anja – volunteers extremely welcome to help secure venue, organize the body of the event, fundraising/sponsorship The Core Group will meet as needed – perhaps towards end of November, if not, early January.
