					JOB DESCRIPTION

TEACHER                                                                       March 2006



POSITION:                           TEACHER

RESPONSIBLE TO:                     HEAD TEACHER, ASSOCIATION GENERAL
                                    MANAGER

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:              Teaching Colleagues, Children, Families/Whanau,
                                    Advisory/Support Teacher, Local Committee, General
                                    Manager, Kindergarten Association, Local Committee,
                                    Education and Support Agencies

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:                  Provision of quality early childhood education and care


The appropriate level of Professional Standards for Kindergarten Teachers will be met in
addition to the requirements of this Job Description.


RESPONSIBILITIES                                 COMPETENCIES

LEARNING AND TEACHING

                                                  kindergarten as delegated by the Head
                                                  Teacher
                                              •   At all times display loyalty and support to
                                                  all team members
                                              •   Attendance in supportive role to Head
                                                  Teacher at Committee Meetings
                                              •   Take a full and active role in the
                                                  Appraisal process
                                              •   Commitment to ongoing Professional
                                                  Learning

•   Effective Communication
                                              •   Contribute to establishing effective
                                                  communication techniques agreed to in
                                                  the Team Contract
                                              •   A positive, responsive and sensitive
                                                  attitude must be reflected and
                                                  communicated within the kindergarten
                                                  environment at all times
                                              •   Ensure confidentiality of information -
                                                  Privacy Act
                                              •   Parents will have opportunities to
                                                  discuss child's individual progress
                                              •   Opportunity for parents' discussions and
                                                  input into programme

•   Conflict Resolution Procedures            •   Adhere to conflict resolution as agreed
                                                  to in Team Contract

SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENT

                                              •   Have knowledge of safety requirements
                                                  and EC Regulations 1998 and
                                                  implement at all times

•   Health and Safety                         •   Have knowledge of and adhere to all
                                                  Southland Kindergarten Association
                                                  policies and procedures at all times
